Hi,
Just bought this 91 bridge spoiler turbo -
http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C852935It drove really nicely, best of the three I saw and it's in great condition, but this is my first Porsche and I've got a few questions:
- The brakes are a bit spongy - they're ok but not amazing as I'd expect in a sports car. Will they need a full strip down, or is this just what 944 brakes are like and I need to get aftermarket pads/discs?
IMHO the 944 brakes little feedback and never feel that secure. I speak from having
-an '89 S2 with OKish Brembos
-a known '91 Turbo like yoruself on the "Big Black" setup with refurbished calipers all round ; the rear were smooth. Even so the pedal didn't inspire as much confidence as my RST on the Cosworth setup did or dare I say even the M3. A known specialist said with this car and the Big Blacks that the lack of feedback is normal.
You can however try flushing out the brake fluid. As for pads just make sure they are genuine Porsche or something reputable like Textar etc. There is no need to get aftermarket discs. If you really aren't happy with the pads I'd get something like Pagid RS29s but cheap they are not! - The interior fan only works on full. I presume this is the resistor which is a quick replacement. What's the best place to get these from?
The heater clip probably has broken ; it's a cheap part to get from Porsche. There is a chance that your diaphragm for taking off the hot water is faulty or the vacuum hose has come away but it is unlikely - The A/C doesn't blow cold. I presume the system has a leak as it was re-gassed by the previous owner about 18 months ago. Is this a Porsche specialist job, or can any mobile A/C man do this?
It probably has a leak. Otherwise it could be an issue elsewhere. A good AC will be able to sort this who specialises in themOther than that it's pretty mint. A few minor cosmetic things I might get done (a scratch, might get the leather reconolised) but I'm pretty pleased that I got the right one.
