what are your favorite products for detailing jobs on your car? What do you use on trim? what polish? how do you do your interior? etc etc.

why not pass those tips about the hard to do jobs on to fellow members?

Ditto, although I also use a mysterious product called ‘a professional’ to add a little extra polish before a big show.

I only wash the car in distilled water, using the finest products that raceglaze offer, I do not own a sponge Always use the 2 bucket system for my real lambswool wash mitten and still those ba****d swirls stare back at me laughing

You see, that's your problem !!

If you wash the car you will see the swirls.
However, using Pauls method of heavy showers, it will rinse off some surface dirt but will leave just enough to cover up your problem swirls

Whoever put the swirls into these kind of cars in the first place should be taken out and shot slowly...
The only way to get out those that have defied even Race Glaze products is to have them professionally removed by machine polisher - fortunately Race Glaze do have a service whereby they can do this - see their website.
Or you could have a respray like I did...

Or get yourself a porter cable machine from the USA - a power conversion kit and do it yourself? Works a treat - no swirls!

these are very good units for the keen amateur as they are not rotary, but the purchase process is complex and you need a few bits to go with them.
We now do a rotary polisher and all the compounds you'll need, but I would stress the need to get proficient on scrap panels before you have a go at your price and joy.
We will be holding machine polishing workshops sometime soon !

Gordon, I am so impressed that you take this serious subject seriously.

My philosophy is to buy the cheapest cars as then I can boast I have a stable of classic cars, and then buy the most expensive valeting stuff. The only problem is then I think, they're only old cars, no need to spend any time on them.

However I have learned that xymol (at least the titanium) doesn't give any better shine than turtle wax modern products, that Mequiars products are either good or awful but turtle wax products are cheaper, that no glass cleaner works but I read that rubbing a lemon then finishing off with a damp and dry cloth on windows give good results.

But the rain wash is the most underestimated car wash around - you spray shampoo over the car just before or whilst its raining.
