Both of the above gauges sit at max even after a long run, no overheat smells from the engine, no steam, no oil in the coolant and vice versa. I now have an infra red thermometer but have n't had a chance to use it yet. I have read Clarkes Garage on testing the gauges and I have the necessary variable resistor. My question is : how on earth do you disconnect the plug from the water temp gauge, I physically cannot reach the plug and I wondered how much dismantling is necessary to do so. Any advice gratefully received. Also do the gauges have a common earth point at the instrument console, if it was dodgy it might explain it.
