Was seat rake adjustment a factory fitted option? I ask as both my front seats have no adjustment. They have a lever each side, near the top of the back rest, both of which will release the seat back so that it will tip forward. In the handbook, correct for model and year, it says that the inner levers will adjust the angle of the seat back.

On my '89 S2 there is a rake adjustment lever on the tunnel side of the seat squab. The passenger one had dropped off and was under the seat when I got it.

My 89 2.7 has it in the same place. it's in a very odd position for the seat back adjustment.

An 87 car is a series two. There is no such thing as an S1. The S in 944S and 944S2 stands for Super.

To 944man, I am sorry for getting the model number wrong, I should have realised that there would be a few pedantics on the forum. It does n't alter the fact that my seats have no rake adjustment. My previous 2 Lux models both had full electric seats, my S2 had electric up and down, manual fore and aft adjustment but I cannot remember if the rake was adjustable. My question was did any 944 have seats where the rake was not adjustable, even my 1972 MG BGT had it, I find it hard to believe that' 87 944s didnt. I do not want to pull the seats if no fault exists.

My 87 S had seat rake adjustment, I can't think of any reason why there wouldn't be in a 944. Have you checked for broken levers?

Without taking the seats out it is hard to tell if anything is broken, the odd thing is that both front seats are the same and both levers release the seat back so it will tip forward. Could the seats have come from an early, basic model 924?

Where are the seat back release levers, are they high up? Boths sides do the same thing.

Yes they are both high up. So it is as designed, no independent rake adjustment. That only leaves the part in the owners handbook that says the inboard levers adjust the rake, DOH!

Do your seats not have these levers?

Jim, thanks so much, I had not really 'clocked' those levers. I read your reply, rushed out to the car and yeah, they are there and adjust the rake! I should n't take everything in the handbook as gospel.
Any way after a break of 5+ years it is really great to have a 944 again.

I'm glad you've sorted it, I been scratching my head as to why you wouldn't have had those rake levers

Wind your neck in. I have helped you and I will do it again. Lux is a trim level and not a model.
