slowly but surely lol!
very small update regarding weight of the car.
i had access to some digital scales today, so wanted to get a reference to see if im heading toward weight goal of under 1 ton.
the car currently weighs 700kg, but does not have the engine, gearbox or torque tube in place.
my research says that the engine gearbox and tt would be in the region of 260kg. which would bring the total weight up to 960kg.
there is more weight to loose if required, although not much. the main saving would be plastic rear hatch. which would prob save 25kg or so.
im at least happy that the car will be under 1000kg by a decent margin. and the car has extensive rollcage installed, which is all thick steel 2.6mm wall.
bearing in mind a std 944 turbo is approx 1360kg, im looking to be around 400kg lighter even with full weld in cage etc. all the suspension/running gear/hubs/brakes/engine etc is all 944 turbo, so a good reference. a std 250hp 951 is 185bhp per tonne, the aim with this car is to see a safe 400hp to begin with, so will be more than double the power to weight of a 250 944 turbo, at approx 420bhp per tonne (at 400hp and 950kg)
next step is to get the 944 turbo lump fitted with custom mounts onto the 924 steel subframe, once thats done, we can mount the intercooler and radiator on a custom tube frame front, finish a few small fab jobs to floorpan and cage, then the shell is ready for blasting and paint.
bodywork wise there are a few details to finish. mainly front bumper to wing canards, front splitter, and large rear wing/spoiler.
i have most of the components for the build now. main things left to source include, bucket seat, engine and gearbox semi solid mounts, fuel system pumps/hoses etc, brake pads, front brake discs, front anti rollbar (blade type), LSD, then its onto the engine stuff, which will be all the service items/belts/gaskets/seals etc, along with uprated turbocharger, standalone ECU, loom etc. custom exhaust fab, then fire it up!!
hopefully have some more updates in the near future along with some pictures.
