Original door mirrors are hens teeth, they were only fitted to the drivers side, and RHD/RHS type mirrors are very scarce, LHS ones can be bought a little easier from US or Europe, werk 924 did get a batch of LH ones.

The metering head pin sticks if a car has been lying any length of time, lift the head and pull the pin and spray plenty of carb cleaner up there until it is free to drop under it's own weight

Love the interior colours in the martini but looking at pic number 4 how much of that is spares or do you have lots of bits missing from the engine bay?

If the metering head is gummed up might be worth pulling the cis system apart for a clean. I made a fuel pressure gauge for under £20 which gets you 90% of the way to setting it up after.

That looks an excellent prospect. just a suggestion, I would get all of the rubbish out of the interior and think about treating all of the original trim as priceless, it really is

Update on progress

Replacement fuel tank, fuel distributor, fuel lines, fuel metering head all fitted.

Engine stripped to reveal bores badly corroded, probably due to the head being removed at some point and left off so that moisture has got in Probably should have started here but as these engines are fairly bullet proof I figured (wrongly) that once fuel issues were sorted it would run. The original engine has been removed and a donor engine sourced so the car can be turned into a runner. Brakes will then be rebuilt all round and anything else required to get through an MOT - hopefully early in the new year.

Original engine will need extensive work. Rebore and over-size pistons are the obvious solution but over-size pistons are not available so I am planning to get the block bored out and sleeved so that the original pistons can be re-used. Will refit the original engine at a later date when it's sorted.

Donor wheels sourced for the car to sit on whilst the original wheels are refurbished. Thanks to Andy from 924 Club for the engine & wheels.

Boot carpets and rear seat removed but front seats are proving difficult as they are seized onto the runners so can't be slid back to reveal bolts. All sprayed with WD40 pending another attempt next week. Once the front seats are out I will remove all the remaining carpet so everything can be cleaned up out of the car.

The plan is to get her into a useable state and then drive her and complete the tidying up/resto work over a period of time.

Nice work so far. I am particularly fussy about originality, but worrying about restoring the original engine would probably be a step too far for me! Anyone would be very hard pressed to notice the differences, if any, between a basic 924 engine of different years, only the external features, intake manifold, fuel injection/distribution system and crankcase breathers come to mind, all easily replaced onto any engine. Concentrating on the unique features would be my suggestion.

Woes continue The donor engine was fitted and started up only to find it is piddling out oil from the rear of the head gasket.

Head now removed to be sent for skimming. Not sure this car wants to go back on the road -it's certainly putting up a struggle
