Some oil filters purporting to be fit for purpose do not have said valve and can cause this. Maybe worth popping on a genuine Porsche or known equivalent one and seeing if your problem goes away.

Re: Clatter, clatter, knock, knock
There is a non-return valve in the corner of the cylinder head which apparently fails fairly often but is easily removed and cleaned and then it's as good as new. However no-one seems to be very clear on the symptoms of failure; drained tappets (i.e. lots of noise on start-up) would seem logical and if you are suffering from this then removing and cleaning the valve would seem a sensible step to take.mr brightside wrote:I've got this issue, it's only from cold and a bit embarrasing sometimes tbh.
Why does it happen? Is there a NRV in the gallery to the top end that fails, or is it symptomatic of pump wear?

Is it a head off job, or a rocker cover off job?zcacogp wrote:There is a non-return valve in the corner of the cylinder head which apparently fails fairly often but is easily removed and cleaned and then it's as good as new. On the S2 it's a rocker cover off job, and looks pretty easy.
On the 8v head models I don't know where it is, but those ones don't have a rocker cover so I presume you don't have one!
It's part number 944 107 239 01 and there are more details here:
