I have a lot of respect for you doing this on your drive. I wouldn't have even considered it. Hope you get it sorted soon.

It should not spin with just the gear box removed, I think...

I think you are right, only when the clutch pedal is down.

Does the 944 have the slide back nose shaft?

Could the lock bolt for that if it has one come loose and its slid back?

Are you talking about 944 421 235 03? which is on a 968 - see this page http://www.einmaligparts.com/Central-Shaft5_p_154039.html

The S2 doesn't have that setup - from what I recall when I had mine apart last year (funny how memories of painful moments fade away so fast..), the propshaft sits straight into the clutch plate. I can't think of a reasonable explanation for this so will be interested to see what's happened.

Anyway, you've done the longest part - the torque tube comes off pretty quickly. As it's all been apart recently that clutch fork pin should come out OK. Hope the bellhousing bolts aren't too tight - access is very tricky to a couple & I had to borrow a very long 19mm spanner to shift one of the top ones on mine.

that setup on the 968 does make doing the clutch a shed load easier, did mine in about 3 hours

I hate to be the one to say this but this problem arose after a clutch replacement. There must has been some sort of warranty given: months/miles or even now consultation with the garage concerned maybe?

I have spoken to the garage, but the clutch was changed a few years ago now, tho iv only done around 15k miles, i guess a clutch can fail anytime.
last night i slid the torque tube back and removed the sensor from the bell housing, the prop shaft is not snapped so it does look like the clutch!!
i will remove the bell housing maybe friday night, what i will need is a clutch alignment tool for the 944, if anybody has a second hand item for sale?
And who does the cheapest quality clutch kit, cheapest i have found is frazerpart at £450

If the clutch was only replaced a few years ago , and by the sound of it , its just the friction plate that's fubarred , why not just replace the friction plate?

https://iapunitedkingdom.com/sku/944116 ... Ai008P8HAQ

£295 sounds better!!

I have thought about replacing just the plate, but as the car does do track days, and gets driven hard, sees 150mph far to often!! for peace of mind i will fit a 3 piece sach kit.

Wow, that's a serious problem! I'd be taking that clutch back to the garage for an explanation....

Hats off to you getting that done on the drive :)
