That looks like the legs fit around the aluminium trim strips on the side of the roof, which I wouldn't trust to take much load without either deforming or letting go as they are delicate and only clip on.

Are you sure that is a good arrangement?

There is a steel body/roof seam under the ally trim for the roof bars to hook onto. Porsche bars work the same way at the front. Early bars worked the same at the rear. Later bars/cars had the luxury of a specific mount and foot on the C pillar

I've decided to try to source the oem Porsche roof system. If anyone can bear to part with theirs then please let me know.

They do indeed. It works for me because I have always used a roof rack to keep things off the roof, and then secured the stuff to the car with straps. Other clamps were supplied and with a little experimenting it is possible to make the front bar far more secure, but it isn't necessary for me.

I have Thule roof bars for mine, which I never use. I have just rooted them out of the garage but cannot see any numbers on there. I could e-mail you a picture if it helps.

The fitting kit metal which actually connects it to the car is the big mystery for me. If there is any information on that I'd really appreciate it.
