Cookie cutter alloys

Hi all my porsche 944 fitted with cookie cutter alloys the tyres are starting to crack on side walls the tread is great but tyres were fitted in 2001 lol the size on them are 195/65/15 would you keep to original size or change tyre size thanks

I have Cookie cutters fitted with 195/65/15 Vredestien Sportrack 5 tyres and they are fantastic in both dry and wet conditions. Got them on line from Camskill in Cumbria under £200 I used to run 225/55/15 Michelin Sport but the Vredesteins are every bit as good can't believe the grip they have.

Certainly do have had her 5years. Have recently put 17" cups on with 225/45/17 tyres but the ride quality isn't as good as my Cookies and 195/65/15 tyres and the grip level is no better! Porsche certainly knew what they were doing so why change? I think I will be going back to my Cookies or maybe 15" Fuches.

Thanks Colin for tips I shall keep cookie wheels on her and keep her standard I may treat her to a full set of falken tyres for £166 for 4 fitted and then a brake fluid change in kwick fit for £39.99 I had belts and fuel filter and plugs ect done last year so getting there now another job I would like to get done is air con change it probley got old stuff in R??

Been reading this post with interest as my car is I'm in dire need of new boots on my Cookie wheels - I have ancient P600 ZR's on the rears (well cracked up) and old P6 HR's on the fronts, (wrong speed rating?), sizes are as per original spec 215 60 15 on the 7J cookie cutters.

As there isn't a great choice in the 215 60 15 VR size , seems to be either budget Chinese, Firestones or P6000's (at £180 per corner!!),
I thought the 195 65 15 option, mentioned in the posts above, might be a good idea so I duly ordered a new set of 195 65 15 Avons from the internet to be fitted by a local tyre fitter, ATS. Come the fitting day, the tyre fitters refused to put them on my wheels, being as they were a different size to the ones on the car. I didn't argue the point as they were adamant the tyres were wrong and wouldn't fit, end of story. So I went away bit confused and disappointed.

What do you think, would 195 65 15's have been OK ? As I say choice is limited now in the 215 size and I really don't fancy a tyre with 'Triangle' written on the sidewall !

There are plenty of tire size calculators on the net e.g. https://tiresize.com/calculator

This says:

Tire Size Equivalent Diameter
195/65R15 25.0x7.7R15 25.0" -0.8%
215/60R15 25.2x8.5R15 25.2" Equal
205/65R15 25.5x8.1R15 25.5" +1.2%

So noticeably narrower, but pretty much the same rolling radius. Personally I'd stick with what the owners manual says i.e. 215/60R15.

Interesting - thanks Jim. Think I will stick to the 215's, can't afford the P6000's sadly but I've heard Firestone tyres are quite good these days as an alternative.

I would stick to either 195/65/15 or slightly wider 225/55/15 for better grip (If they suit your rim width) Rotiform make pretty cool porsche inspired wheels in this size. Check them out here: http://www.carid.com/rotiform-wheels/

Camskill have Khumo Solus in 215 60 15V for £56 each.
Pretty good tyres as I've had them fitted to a couple of cars.
P6000's are rubbish in my opinion but I've not used the Firestones so don't know about them.

In that size the Solus KH17 is not a bad tyre . Premium Contact 2s were great on my Focus as well .

+1 for kumo solus. Have them on my 944 and Mondeo. V good tyre for the price.

Which wheels are they on your 85 lux? I like them alot!

As for tyres I have toyo proxes cf2's and they perform well , 205/60/r15
