Hi all

I am after a known quality set of rear wheel bearings for my 944 s2 without paying silly money.
I see various kits out there from many different company's can anyone help?

Regards

Mark

just go to your local bearing supplier

size is 42x80x42 double row deep groove, I just replaced mine with Alko trailer bearings same size £19 each.

you also need to replace the bolts, I bought bolts from here
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161214378076? ... EBIDX%3AIT

you need 24

M8 x 50

You are talking cv joint bolts waylander I have new cv joint kits to fit, If I'd know about the bolts you have mentioned I would have just cleaned inspected and repacked.

Thank you

yes the CV bolts, you have to remove the shafts to do the bearings, so new bolts needed.

repacking CV joints is a waste of time and very messy, the best thing to do if you are not going to replace them is swap NS for OS then the load is on them in the opposite direction, so you have new bearing faces to use,

if you are doing this yourself a Arnworx bearing tool is a dam handy thing to have, as the manual states you need to remove the trailing arm completely and then heat to 150 degrees C and use a press.

I have seen the arnworx tool and procedure its the way I would approach it. On the bearing front Waylander the bearing you kindly listed would I need a circlip and bearing seal that seems to make up most bearing kits or can these items be obtained separately.

You won't need a new clip unless you break one, the seals can be bought at the same shop as the bearings.

The other thing you might need is a 3/4 drive bar and 32mm socket, those hub nuts are extremely tight, 500nm or 389ft/lbs, I used a DeWalt impact gun to undo mine after breaking 3 1/2 drive knuckle bars.

Go for an SKF or FAG kit and buy one of the eBay wheel bearing puller/press kits listed for a fwd car. They cost around £37 and it will save you ALOT of bother, you don't need the Arnworx tool as these do the same job and come with many fittings so they can be used on many different vehicles. Total cost all in for both sides will be around £175, a day of your life and a couple of skinned knuckles

Hi Waylander, would you have a part number for the Alko bearing? I have seen a 80x42 listed on eBay from that company.
I like the approach you use to keep your car in top order.

They are the same as BMW 5-series. I bought them because they were cheaper than ones for Porsche 944 from the same vendor - which was Euro Car Parts.

Hi Richair
Looks like I may need to replace a rear wheel bearing on my car.
Is this the type of tool you used?
