Hi Folks -

What do us Porsche drivers like to listen to when we are out - the radio, CD player or just hum and whistle? My 944S2 has a Sony 8 player CD shuttle in the boot! Renewed the four speakers recently and system balanced for: Stones, Beatles, Led, Queen, Quo, Tina - all the old school stuff - the radio never gets put on - sometimes I just drive sans...

Blaupunkt Bremen cassette player with th unforgettable fire stuck in at the moment on a loop! Coupled with a Blaupunkt BEA80 equalizer amp.
I am thinking about having a parrot mk3100 fitted so I can play digital stuff.

Toronto Cassette Player in Speedy - never use it, I have the air cooled burble

Alpine Double Din in Fourscha - Listen to radio when hood up, with hood down the note of the sports exhaust is enough for me.

Disgusting Sony unit in Nippy Ninja - Even when turned off, it constantly scrolls through its functionality. Was thinking of changing to the Classic Sat Nav system that Porshce have introduced which has digital functionality but is not DAB. :x

I have an early 90's Sony single CD head unit with Bass Boost (just makes the poxy little speakers fart lol). I have replaced the speakers with new 6x4s, Panasonic 3way 200w in rear, which are surprisingly decent, and Pyle slim fit 160w 2ways in the doors, which are unsurprisingly rubbish. But I at least now have sound form all 4 speakers so I can hear the stereo above the cabin rattles, and transmission drone.

Generally listen to a mixture of 80s and 90s stuff on CD, and occasionally the radio.

I had to buy a new head unit for the 968 as it didn't have one when I got it. I went for an Alpine unit that was very plain until switched on. It only holds one CD and that's Foo Fighters at the moment, but it has Bluetooth so usually listen to stuff off my phone. So anything Rock from the 90's like Nirvana through to modern stuff like Royal Blood.

I have a Becker Traffic master in my garage that I was keeping to go into the Porsche. When I ended up with a square dash car, there seemed to be no point - whose idea was it to put the head unit behind the gear stick?

The car came with a Nikko/Sendai or similar, but has Aux in - actually its surprisingly good. I have seen VDO units that look very good in a 944, but at the moment music is not my priority.
In my old cars, I had Pink Floyd, and Roxie Music on constant loop! My kids hated it!!!

My unit is an alpine mechless unit with USB and Bluetooth, the hard drive is a solid state one and just powered off the USB in the head unit, it's tiny so you can hide it away almost anywhere

The unit has a limit of indexing 4000 tracks so it's only the old 30gb drive out of my laptop, works a treat

When I bought the car it had a new blingy Sony Bluetooth unit with RGB lighting and new alpine speakers. Once demo mode was turned off I could set the colour to the same yellow as the dials etc and looks pretty decent. I've since realised that the speakers are wired very wrong - Drivers front output goes to passengers rear etc

Music wise it will generally be classic rock or modern chill... but most of the time I just enjoy the exhaust :)

there is a little APP for your iPhone called JL Audio.

you can play a source file off your bluetooth or cd or usb, that will send the right data to JL Audio App

this can then test to see if you have your speakers wired ass about face or out of phase.

good little tool

Porsche Classic radio (worth more than the car) with B.B. King on the SD card or Van Halen for the quick bits. The radio looks better in the 944 than it did in the 993 which now has a Becker Cascade but you can hear sweet fa in the 993.

Brilliant

Is the classic radio worth the money? I was very tempted until I realized it wasn't DAB. The sat nav would be useful but at £1k fitted, it's a bit eye watering :)

Mine just makes a grinding noise and cuts out every few seconds... which oddly is what the clutch did before I spent the sat nav money on it.

Shame they don't do it for android, sounds useful - I'm never sure if I get the phase right!
