are all trailing arms the same between early/late cars, and 924/944?

is the only difference in overall axle width determined by the hub only?

i currently using 944 turbo aluminium trailing arms as i want to be able to bolt on brembo calipers. with abs type hubs, the overall axle width is 61inches hub face to hub face.

i need to make the overall axle width narrower by approx 3 inches.

i measured 924s which seemed to have overall width of 58inch which is about exactly what i require.

is the width purely based on which hub you use? and if so, can i just press in an early non abs hub, and achieve a narrower rear end

regards

i'm also interested to know this. Also is there much weight difference with the turbo aluminium stuff compared to normal?

got new and old hubs in front of me now. there is a difference of 29mm per side. so with narrow hubs the rear end is 58mm narrower.

you just have to use discs with shallower bell to put the disc back in the same position related to the caliper.

i will use 993 turbo discs on the rear with 996 turbo calipers. discs are 322x28mm

these early hubs should put my wheels exactly where i need them to fill the arches perfectly!

not sure on the weight differences between ally and steel

will be building up the complete rear end of the car in next week or so, will document for reference

regards

Just to add to this as I'm doing the reverse of Nick as I've fitted late hubs to an early 951. It's been a simple case of just swapping the hubs and discs, although removing the hubs will separate your bearings so you'll be needing a pair of those too (annoying as I only replaced mine last summer!). Oh and buy a wheel bearing puller kit, you can buy them from eBay for under £40 and they're great quality for the price. This makes life exponentially easier when changing the bearings.
