Has anyone put a 944S2 engine in to a 924S (or early 944 8v?)

What's involved?

The engine in my 924S race car is down on power so I'm considering an engine swap, which will also give me more power.

968 engines are a bit more pricey and I think the wiring is more complex because of the variocam, so I'm wondering if an S2 engine is a decent compromise.

The car will still be eligible for 750mc Roadsports and the new CSCC Open Series.

Ive done it, it makes for a fun car! The install is pretty straightforward as engine mounts, bellhousing etc all fit straight on. Locating the oil cooler and getting the hvac working (maybe not an issue in a race car?) are a little challenging. The wiring is also quite simple as most of the wire colours match between the two engines.

Interesting, thanks. Is the clutch assembly the same as the 924S or do I need to swap that for an S2 one?

Certainly hvac isn't an issue on a race car.

Do it Andy...

I think Augment support the 16V motor with the 8V bellhousing etc..

Yes, I have emailed David for his view and we had been talking at length about replacing the current 2.5 with a fresh one, or a 2.7. Most of the cost is in the labour and I'm thinking now that if the engine is coming out anyway, why not put an S2 engine in.

Trouble is that an S2 engine costs a fair bit more than the 2.5 8v and I have spent too much money in the last year on cars (various).

I would hope to recoup some of my costs by selling on the Augment cam, fpr and ECU from the 8v, or maybe putting them in an early 944 8v Road car I have my eye on!

I used the s2 clutch, not sure if you could use the lux one. In any case you would need an S2 flywheel for the correct crank trigger setup.

If you are seriously considering selling the cam, fpr and ecu message me please. These are upgrades i would like to do to mine.

Would make sense to keep the ECU?
