Don't quote me only ever done it on a manual,
First time was easy came right out with a gentle pull, second time was a pain but found that if the tube was exactly straight then it just slid straight out......

I'm sure one of the experts will be along soon with a more technical and correct response

No expert , but the times I have removed them it is just a case of pulling and gentle use of pry bar.
On the last one I removed there was signs of heavy wear of the splines where the flywheel fits . You can see the wear on the bottem shaft compared to the top in the photo. This could make removal slightly harder.

There is a circlip on the torque tube splined shaft its a pain to get at. Won't come out untill you remove it.

Hi Tony, just had a quick look on Pelican forum and found this advice on the auto torque tube, use link below:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-924-944-968-technical-forum/492905-944-auto-84-torque-tube-stuck.html

Hope that helps. Any more info required just use the search function on that site - there are lots of threads to look at, so they should help too.

I don't remember that when I did mine?

Is your gearbox off yet? Is the torque tube at the correct angle? (i.e. not dropped down)

You have to slacken the cap head bolt that goes through the square block on the splined shaft on the gearbox side of the flexplate. Unbolt the 9 caphead bolts that hold the flexplate and ring gear to the flywheel, this will then allow you to move them backwards to expose the circlip on the engine side of the flexplate. You have to remove this to pull the torque tube out. Its as easy to remove the reference sensors and then unbolt the bellhousing and pull that back to give you more room. Which ever way its a pain. Good luck.
