Damaged Locking nut!
I have a set of MY02s fitted to my 993 and I managed to some how damage the locking nut and also crack the locking nut key while trying to remove one of the front wheels. i think the bolts had been over tightened. The lug part of the locking nut has sheered off but the base of the locking nut is still in tact but slightly damaged so the locking nut does not fit on it any more. Managed to get a replacement locking nut key from my local OCP which means I can safely (and carefully) remove the locking nuts from the other 3 wheels. Does anyone have any advice on how I could go about removing the damaged locking nut? I am based in the West Midlands. Any help or advice gratefully received.

Most tyre fitters will have a set of 'universal' locking wheel nut removers. Harsh, but they do the job.

not an answer to your question sanj71, but I replaced all locking bolts on my 991 with standard bolts.......the locking bolt removal tool supplied by Porsche is simply not robust enough to withstand the torque setting of 160nm required!

As previous poster said try your local garage or tyre fitter unless your happy to try yourself then its just a case of buying/borrowing a set of locking wheel nut remover sockets which can be bought for £20-£25 & a decent breaker bar. Machine Mart or Halfrauds sell them if you have either close by.
I know its the official Porsche setting for the 991 but 160 Nm is alot for an alloy wheel in my opinion (around 115Nm is normal on most stuff & I think the 993 is listed at 125 ish newton meters) so its no wonder the supplied socket breaks so certainly a good idea to replace them with normal whel bolts if you have something that requires such a big torque setting.

Yep just get them taken off by a GOOD tyre garage then replace them with normal bolts, if they want your wheels they'll take your car (usually with your keys) locking wheel nuts are more hassle than they are worth these days....
I actually had 7+9 fuchs on mine.....

try looking on ebay for Irwin bolt grips

I have never had success with the locking wheel nut removers. The best way I have found is to get an old socket that nearly slis over the lock nut & holding it with pliers, smack it onto the locking wheel nut with a club hammer. Then use a T bar to remove. Don't ever use a windy gun on wheel nuts & also if you use a lock nuts then don't tighten them to the full torque.
