Yes correct. Looking for a decent tyre with a stiff sidewall and good wet grip that isn't going to cost the earth.

Both sizes are available, but Id opt for 4x 225/50/16. Even better on 4x8" wheels, but theyre perfectly happy on 7" fronts and were fitted by Porsche on 944 Turbos (1988 M758) as well as 928s.

4x 205/55/16 wouldn't be bad either, and quite a bit cheaper. 944s don't need staggered wheels and are, in fact, far better without. Remember too that the Turbo was developed on 4x 7"x15" wheels...

I recently acquired a set of club sport wheels (usually found on the Turbo S "Silver Rose"). These are 7j front and 9j rear.

I've opted for a set of Continental Sport Contact, mainly because these are the only tyres I could get at a reasonable price in both 225/50/16 and 245/45/16. I believe these are the sizes originally provided by Porsche on these wheels, on the Turbo S at least.

It hasn't been that easy though. I bought the tyres through National Tyres, who have them listed and available to buy through their website (cheaper than going direct to your local branch). However, they didn't have the rears when I went to have them fitted, they were coming direct from Continental and hadn't turned up yet. After a week there was still no sign. I think it turned out Continental didn't have any and NT went to a different supplier. They are now ready to be fitted.

I don't know if this means that Continental no longer make these and there is now a dwindling supply. Or maybe it was just my bad luck that Continental had run out, perhaps they only produce a limited number each year. I hope it is not the former as I'm not sure what I will use next time if the Sport Contact is no longer available.

Those Rainsport 2s seem to have rave reviews. Thanks

I've got Rainsport 3's on the front of my turbo. Been very pleased with both the grip and wear. Unfortunately they are not available for my rear size so have continued using Toyo T1-R's which I have had no issues with either on the back. I found they wore quite quickly around the edges on the front on my lowered car but the RS 3's don't seem to have suffered this issue despite the rubber seeming quite soft.

I Put Bridgestone S02's on my S2 last year - made a world of difference from the old Pirelli P6000's that were on there.

The S02s were also N rated and in the original spec sizes by the way.

I run Bridgestone Potenza S02s on both my road-going S2 and my 2.7 trackday car. Great tyres on a 944; they really suit the car. The only downside is they tend to be "noisy", but that's a small trade-off in return for their other benefits.

In both sizes I would consider the Uniroyal RainSport 3s. In the wet they are surprising in the grip stakes and once they bed in they really do grip very well. The only complaint I have about them is on that the Clio (others have commented on this as well) the car will almost 'lurch' a little at times when cornering in the dry. Maybe I have got used to this now or maybe they have bedded in more. That however is on 195/50R15s and the car originally was on 195/45R16s (I put the latter away for safekeeping). They are also Toyo T1-R money and I would say better than them as well, especially in the wet where they will walk over the Toyos.

I'll report what they are like on track. The Contis on the 16s were superb.

Otherwise I'd consider the following that are available in 205/55R16 and 225/45:

Uniroyal RS3s
Michelin PE2s.

225 and 245:
Continentals ; it seems to be the only common tyre available between the two.
