I currently have 215/60/15's on the rear and 205/60/15 on front. The 215's are almost impossible to get so am looking towards the 205's... is that sensible? Any advice would be appreciated. Lowest price is more important than looks or performance atm but obviously need them to be 'good enough'.

Hi :)

Assuming you have clearance I would go UP in size (more grip) NOT down (less grip)

So if available I would go for 225/50 x 15s... which is roughly the same rolling radius so speedo will be fine... both front and back...

Have a look at this page for them >>>> http://www.mytyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/rshop. ... hen=Ordern

All the best Brett :)

Thanks Brett. That will definitely be the next tyres I choose and makes a lot of sense but this time I need to keep below £250 for 4 tyres. Should I get 205/60/15 or 55? V rating ok?

Hi :)

Depends on you really ..BUT you realise the V or W or Y is a speed rating.... so lower than standard rating is NOT a good idea....both for grip and insurance purposes.... (imagine you write off the car and the insurance assessor finds lower rated tyres.... :( ...somehow I dont think you would get paid)

Your owners manual will tell you WHICH speed rating your tyres SHOULD be....

All the best Brett :)

I would just stick with the 205's all round and V rated will be fine as that goes up to 150 mph.
You can pick up a set of Uniroyal Rainsport3 for around £200 from mytres etc.

I'm pulling my hair out. 215/60/15's are not available in W. I look at them in V rating and as you say, that's above what my car will do. Why get 205's if 215's are available? Should I try to get wider on the rear? I've never had so much trouble getting tyres.

Crazy Idea... I buy a set of used Boxster 17" wheels with tyres still on them... what size would the tyres need to be?

Hi :)

Boxster wheels MUST be the correct OFFSET or they wont fit.... the 944 guys will advise more....

All the best Brett :)

The 215's won't give any more noticeable grip than the 205's, so I wouldn't worry about that too much
V rated tyres will be fine and are more than adequate for a standard 944.

If you went for 16" Boxster wheels you could use either 205/55/16 or 225/50/16 :thumbright:

I recently got 4 x Toyo Proxes CF1's in 215/60 R15. They are V rated as well.

Not too expensive and I found them much better than the old tyres I had.

V rating is the specified rating for my LUX in the manual.

Hi,
did you get this sorted yet? I recnetly had the same problem as the 215/60 is a very rare size. I went with Kumo Solus in the end at v reasonable £75 per tyre fitted.

Thanks for your answers guys. I'm taking it to the tyre place over the next week so hopefully they'll have 1 of the options you've come up with.

I'm a bit late to the thread but nevermind :)

My '87 Turbo (Teledials, late "ABS" offset wheels) has these and I love them:

Item No.: R-271420
Item: Continental SportContact 225/50 ZR16 92Y N2 (Su)

Item No.: R-271419
Item: Continental SportContact 205/55 ZR16 91Y N2 (Su)

Those item numbers are the product codes to order them from MyTyres, which is where I like to get them from due to price. http://www.mytyres.co.uk/

The 89 Lux had 15" wheels. I found some Firestone tyres in the original 215/60/15 size for £70 a corner and have replaced all 4. They're fantastic tyres, quiet and quite grippy.
