Well my title is perhaps a bit melodramatic, but this query concerns a few locations on the car.

I have had always had a slightly leaky sunroof, which normally drips water from the hinge right above my head. Since I haven't used the car for a few weeks, I now have a wet seat. Despite thinking I've fixed it over the years, the problem keeps returning.

I have replaced the main sunroof seal (attaches to the removable roof), and applied silicone sealant to the inner seal.

First thing I always do when it leaks is pour water down the drain holes, and make sure it exits the car at appropriate locations. This time however the front left tube doesn't exactly flow out of the bottom of the car, but the water does drain away, and the car wasn't filling up with water! I did notice a condensation increase on the inside of the windscreen, at the top, the more water I was pouring down the drain holes.

So I removed the headlining, which was soaking. All the tubes were properly connected, so I have ordered a new inner sunroof seal, as this must be allowing water to wick over the seal. Does this sound correct?

As for the front left drain tube, it appears to have soaked into the sound proofing where the bonnet release is. The tube from the roof is also very short, reaching only just below the dashboard. A photo in that hole shows that it appears to drain into the battery tray. Does this sound correct?

Finally, I started exploring the battery tray. It doesn't appear to be leaking through to the fuse box area (I plugged the drain hole and filled up the tray with water), but the metal inside the car directly under the battery tray was wet with condensation. I can't work out how this is happening!

I did notice a strange action in the battery tray though. The picture says it all. (Click to enlarge)

WHY?

I had the same problem for months ,
replacing roof with new seals
replacing inner sunroof seal
cleaning all drain tubes
The problem still persisted but only after a down pour then one day I blocked the front drain tube at the bottom and slowly poured water down it, expecting the water to obviously fill to the top.....Nothing happened except water then coming into the car.
I was so chuffed to find the problem after so long, it was a split drain tube that leaked only with a big down pour.
Replacement draintube and problem was sorted.

I had a similar issue with my 944S, water running into passenger rear footwell. After checking all of the usual problem areas I went around the car systematically spraying small areas, then leaving for 30 mins or so, and checking later for ingress.

Eventually found it was coming in when I sprayed water down the passenger side bulkhead drain.

When I looked at the seam sealer between wing and inner wing, you could see that it was cracked and water was being drawn into car this way. Not apparent in front as the floor is double skinned, but running into the passenger footwell.

This may not be an issue for yourself, but worth looking at :)

Here is my thread from when I had the same issue - viewtopic.php?f=25&t=16981

Pink Piggy - you need adblock!
Cococola - drain tubes do not look cracked.
Hallsy - I fear that I may have a lot of work to do to eliminate the problem. These are good ideas.

I still welcome any views on my battery tray, and whether the tube pictured should be so short?

This is now solved.

For the battery tray, I wire brushed it, painted white Hammerite, then seam sealer, then more Hammerite. The Hammerite is a poor colour match, but the protection is worth it. I could get some alpine white made up, but maybe later...!

The sunroof drain problems and interior moisture were due to two things:
1) New inner seal required. Now fitted.

2) The passenger side drain hose was not bonded into the corner of the screen properly, so was soaking into the insulation and passenger footwell.

I eventually managed to track down some suitable replaceable sunroof drain hose. The challenge is that it needs to fit a 12mm metal pipe outlet from the sunroof drain, yet be small enough to fit within the A pillar. The original hose is only 8mm ID and only 1.5mm sidewall. I was able to heat and persuade the hose onto the sunroof drain outlet. But then this hose was still too big to fit through the gap in the corner of the windscreen to drain into the engine bay area. So I hot glued it to some smaller hose. Honestly, this did work! I checked it for leaks. Now all reassembled and dry!

Sorry no pictures :(
