I have an S2 that has developed a whining noise that comes and goes with the level of revs on the engine. It is intermittent and kind of difficult to pinpoint, it comes in at higher revs but disappears when I drop below 1500 - 2000 rpm. Any clues on where to start looking? Could it be a belt?

Hi

Sounds like a whining belt if it follows the revs and hopefully just the alternator belt. I might get toasted for this but I've always found a quick squirt of wd40 quietens down the belt (only alternator belt!!)

Good luck

I would not put any petroleum based product on any rubber parts as it removes the plasticisers from the rubber,

that's why cam belts snap when they get soaked in oil

My suspicions of getting toasted were correct

I was only suggesting a small, brief squirt of WD40 and not near the cam belt.
