Yes it really is strange why such a good car is not in high demand.
The MX5 is without doubt the best small sports car of the 80/90's.
The 944 is a great car from this era too.

Both suffer from the same problem.

Too many have survived because they are too well built.

Less all types of 968 than just 944 turbos

Shame the only one worth any real money is the CS

Ever driven a Healey big six?
I have and I used to own a TR5 and the TR was much better to drive but here we are many years later and the Healey has gone ballistic.
I was even offered a Healey 100 LeMans in exchange for my TR4 in about 1979 and I refused  one has just sold for £164000!

We used to sprint and hillclimb in those days and no Healey ever beat my TR's or my Stag but its the Healey they all want.

Don't think there any rules about what is desirable

There are some cars fetching fortunes that I would quite happily crush

Once bought an Australian Import Mitsubishi Sapporo (Think it was spelt like that) 2.6L 3 speed auto for a bargain price of £200 - The only one in the country :?
A lorry threw a rock at the windscreen which cracked from top to bottom, only option was to import one at a cost of £700 - After 5 months trying to off load it - it went for £20 scrap :(

Bought a 1964 Auto Union Munga 15 years ago for £600 - 0nly 6 in this country - possibly worth a grand now !

Cause it's rare don't make it valuable !

I looked at the how many left site and looks to me like 1200 944 lux. And about 500 of the others... I wonder how many tidy ones there are (I mean up together mechanically)

I'm not sure how accurate that site is....on looking at the breakdown by year of registration when checking my cars year of 86 it states that there are 2 taxed and 6 sorn? I can't believe that there are only two 86 turbo's on the road..so what..me and one other? I very much doubt it...

Pete

At the bottom of the site page (about the data) it says the figures are from the DVLA ?

And there lies the weak link in that data chain :D

Just you and I then Pete :P

I was browsing the figures for turbos last week and thought some of the numbers looked a bit fishy... But then again you never know! Anyone else here have a 1986 951 taxed and tested?
