Looking good this Nick, liking the way it's panning out. That Audi motor is going to sing! We have a couple of SWB Quattro regulars at Loton Park and they sound sublime.

They sound the nuts! One of my favourite engine notes there is!

Looking forward to getting the engine and box mounted and cage in.

Just need to source exhaust manifold and turbo so as to get the engine in at correct angle etc.

Been having a bit of a palava sourcing a steering rack. The original item was damaged and so been trying to source a new one. Bought one on ebay but it turned up and was a 944 manual rack. Small bonus as they can be hard to source and so now have that to use in another project.

Managed to find another rack today so thats on the way to me now.

That completes the front end components required for the minute to get the shell rolling.

We are doing a mock up build with parts etc to ensure all parts fit and work correctly etc. Then the car will come apart again for shell paint etc and all components will be refurbed before re fitting.

Just need fuel cell now along with exhaust and inlet manifold then we can get all the running gear mounted and close all the rear end in.

can soon progress to offering the engine into the bay now and get some engine mounts made up.

with regret thinking of offering this for sale as a project.

decided to bin the audi engine, and stick with 924 turbo. still have 95% of parts to put this back together as a s2 924t.

just no time to progress with this, and could do with the workshop space as we are very busy and this is sitting idle!

shell is 100% rust free, previously acid dipped, seam welded, tube front, 951 intercooler mounts. full custom msa weld in cage installed etc. rear arches tubbed ready for Carrera gtr wide body arches (we have these)

all components in VGC as this car has previously been rebuilt.

make an awesome base for someone to build a proper Carrera gtr rep, track weapon/full on race car.

any SERIOUS potential buyers who appreciate the costs in prepping a shell to this stage, get in touch for further information and pricing. we can continue to carry out fabrication work to your requirements, and have shell painted etc.

regards

had a bit of interest in this from a couple of people, but after thinking about it, and having people showing an interest in completing the build, i have decided to keep this here and carry on bolting bits together. not worried how long it takes really. i know i will regret selling it.

as said, i am not going to install the audi 5cyl engine any more, i still have the 924t engine here, and thinking i will build a forged engine, and fit modern large turbo and engine management and aim for 400bhp or so.

hopefully post some images with shell build updates soon

did a very scientific test to check the quaife lsd was still in the gearbox, which consisted of going onto some gravel, and launching it, every time it left 2 clear lines and you could feel the lsd locking up so thats amassive bonus

This Quaife equipped gearbox is now in my car. Good news is that it's great fun drifting on roundabouts with both wheels spinning up rather than one. Really controllable and not snappy like an open diff. Bad news is I won't be leaving any 11's down the road as 1st gear is fecked. Can't even nurse it without it jumping out of gear.

It was stated that 1st gear was buggered and you said you were going to try make a good gearbox from the ones u had?

I was looking for rebuild parts and found ideolas were doing kits but a few parts were out of stock.

I found pulling away in 2nd was no issue anyway, and the item was sold as an lsd with a free box attached to it due to the issues with first gear

regards

That wasn't a dig Nick. Just a comment that it's being tested out on my car before I rebuild it. Re reading your thread it made me smile you actually managed to get 1st to work.

Sorry just wanted to clarify for other forum users who may have thought I had stitched you up with a dodgy box!

Tbh 1st gear was difficult but I found 2nd gear launches to be ok!

glad to have had a bit of a chance to get some progress happening with the shell this end.

all the old cage came out as it was shocking. so made a new weld in cage and put it into the shell so its nice and strong now and cage fits right tight to the shell and nice and high away from my head.

fitted up front end panels from 951, and offered up the rear arches which fit VERY nicely which is a result. cut the inner arches out to tub them out for max clearance required for big wide wheels. and have so far filled in the drivers side.

front end is t45 tube, bolted into position onto the front chassis rails so whole front can be removed with 10 fixings. also mounted 951 intercooler behind the 924t badge panel (which needs modding to match the 951 front bumper)

started putting some metal work back into the rear ready to close it all off and mount a fuel cell in the rear.

reinforced and boxed in the rear coilover mounts

just need to source fuel cell, and then can get the rear end all finished and closed in properly.

offered up some wheels which i like the look of to get an idea of how the car looks, and i like the gtr arches on the rear, and just 951 front end. looks clean at the front, and wide and mean at the back.

not too much work left on the shell now, so hoping to get some more progress on it over next few weeks.

few pics of progress

Looking great, good to see you've kept it and you're cracking on. Great fab work on the cage, if I decide to go weld in I'll certainly be having a chat with you

hopefully get the shell all done over next few weeks. Will add more photos soon
