right you know i have this major prob with my engine knocking like a rent man, i have just swapped cars round moving the porsche from where i want the gto to be and when i started the gto it didn't knock once the oil pressure was top side straight off the key so i left it to idle while i went and grabbed the camera. it was still on cold start when i got back to it and still no knock until it warmed up a bit. anyway i have shot a little video.

in the video i rev the car the first time and there is no knock the only noise you hear is the squeal i mentioned in an earlier post, then the cold start cuts off as the car idles at 800rpm. i rev it again a few times and the knock is very audible , so out of curiosity i jump into the car and show the oil pressure which reads zero untill i hold the throttle to 2000 rpm to which the pressure builds with the rev counter to 2.0 bar.

could it be the oil? or is it as i suspect with swarf in the oil pump?

YouTube - knock

Jammed oil pressure release valve, once you give it some beans the pump outputs enough oil to create pressure against the open valve.

then it needs to come out to be cleaned. its what i thought anyway but the engine strip is inevitable to replace the big ends and possibly the mains.

Early ones are meant to need an alignment tool to do, some do some don't. It's under the oil cooler so you'll need an oil cooler seal set before you pull it down. Read the manual as it's not as straightforward as you'd think.

all the shells were shot, oil rings stuck in the pistons mains all shot so engine shop has my crank heads a piston (for ring sizes) and all my new parts.... but i'll never raise the cash to retrieve any of it. so scrappin it seems like the next option.
