For coolant check out comma G48 from halfords. It is porsche approved for cars up to 1995. It's also blue so likely a match for what you already have in there. It's best to stick with the same type of coolant if possible to avoid a reaction between the two. Dex III atf should be fine for your autobox. My 928 "specfied dex II but III is backward compatible. I used the Triple QX stufffrom eeurocarparts as it was cheap and they all meet spec anyway.

So if you look at step 1 in the file waylander posted you drain the oil from the transmission by removing the pipe from the filler tank. Once you've done the gasket and filter and replaced the pipe fill back up at the filler tank. If it's anything like my 928 you'll need some hose to reach it to fill back up and you'll probably spill a lot of atf in the process. Also make sure you torque things back to the correct spec. If you overtighten the transmission sump then you could either warp it or ruin the gasket and you'll get leaks. I've not done this on a 944 only a 928 but it doesn't look too different. It's not too hard but I think you need to be comfortable following the steps in waylanders post if you are going to do it.
