My Lux would not start a while back. I had fuel, spark, compression, timing and I was thinking I had put diesel in it or somthing. Turned out to be a damaged rotor arm. So even if you have a spark it doesn't mean the ignition is ok. Did you have 0 compression on all 4 cylinders? That sounds funny to me if the belts are good...

I still have a spare rotor arm, newish cap, and plug leads (old but they worked) if you want to try them as a last ditch attempt.

Thanks guys, but I've already fitted new rotor arm, cap, etc.

Once I swap the engines over, I'll strip mine down to try and find out why I have no compression on any cylinders.

I have found that one cause of starting faults early 944 ie no spark on the king HT lead etc can be due to low battery volts even if car cranks over ok.
Have had similar probs with the 968, IMO best to give the battery a good charge first before trying to start.

What year is the 944 as if later type 90-95 maybe a hook up to to Durametric for codes.

Another starting problem with cylinder compression can be the use of incorrect oil allowing the hydraulic lifters to hydraulic and stay open with cold cranking.
