In response to member feedback the CSCC has decided to offer specific classes in 2015 for the 2.5 and 3 litre 4 cylinder transaxle Porsches. So in CSCC Future Classics there will be a single class for all 924 Turbo, 2.5 litre 924S & 944, and 3 litre 944 S2 race cars, whilst in CSCC Modern Classics there will be a single class for 944 S2 and 968 race cars.

In addition, the 944 Turbo will be eligible for both Future and Modern Classics within the normal classes.

2 litre 924 will remain eligible for the Pre 1981 <2 litre class.

All other Porsches will remain eligible within the existing relevant Series and Classes.

These new classes replace the Dunlop Porsche series which didn't really take off this year, and it's hoped that even more 924/944/968 racers will be attracted to the CSCCs brand of good value racing than is already the case. The 4 cylinder transaxle Porsche now have their own pots to fight for and win.

Dragging this one back up...

So are many people on here racing in CSCC? I'm racing a few rounds this year in tintops in a Civic Type-R with my best bud, our first foray in to 'proper' racing so it should be interesting.

I can already feel the bug biting though, which has got the mind going and I'm having thoughts of abandoning my intentions of hill climbing my 951 and instead building a 924s race car for Future Classics... If my pockets were deep enough I'd just say sod it and race prep the 951, but I don't think the salary of a local government highway engineer would stretch to the running costs :(

I'll be keeping a close eye on the various Porsche classes this year and right now I'm feeling very tempted!

I think the new transaxle classes have been reasonably popular in both Modern Classics and Future Classics, although I'm not on the CSCC Committee anymore.

I'm registered for FC in my 924S but have only raced once this year, and that was in the 750 Roadsports series ( where it was competitive and great fun in Class C), due to time, money and other projects. I will be out in FC later in the year though, probably at Donington and maybe Oulton Park.

The 924S is a great car to race because they handle so well and parts are still reasonably easy to get hold of and they are cheap to run. The down side is that many series seem to have 2 litre to 3 litre classes and the 924S (and early 944) suffer from being down 500cc. However, they are light and it will be interesting to see how the car fares in FC later in the year. In Roadsports, the car worked well in their series because they have a power to weight class system and the car is ideal for the <140 Bhp (at the wheels) per tonne class against the MR2, MX5 and BMW Compacts.

Thanks for the info Andy, I've been reading a few of your posts on PH regarding this and it's been very informative. I haven't rulled out the idea of a 2.0 924, I'm handy with engines so I could build a reasonably high power motor for not a lot of cash... Although it would be a big step back from all the power and torque of my Turbo!..

I'm going to keep an eye on what's what this year and will go from there. If the bug bites hard enough I will have a tough decision to make at the end of the year :?

If it was me starting from scratch I'd look at either:
1. A 924 to HSCC 70 Roadsports regs, probably the cheapest way into historic motorsport and also eligible for CSCC Future Classics pre 1981 class and 750 Roadsports.
2. A pre 1986 944 2.5 as 1986 is the cut off for the most recent historic class and therefore eligible for a number of things, inc Tour Britannia (if road legal)
3. A 944 S2 for CSCC or 750 Roadsports
4. A pre 1986 220 Bhp turbo (the only one that I think was homologated for international competition and therefore a definite future race classic) if I could afford it
5. A 250 turbo for CSCC future classics if I could afford the running costs

Once again thanks for the info. Funny you should mention the 944t Group B homologation as this I something I've heard mentioned, but it doesn't seem to be widely known about but as you point out this could really influence the desirability of the early cars if/when more people pick up on this. Mine is an early 1986 car so I wonder if it is homologated... Something that is certainly worthy of further research!

Edit: although I can't imagine that building a car to comply with the FIA homologation would be cheap...

I'll be tracking my 944 2.5 Lux (1985.5) extensively this year and depending on how I enjoy it and how the car performs could be very tempted to get a competition licence and join in a race series in 2016

I'm struggling to figure out whether my car would qualify for the Tour Britannia in the regularity competition. It is a 1985.5 LUX, although the engine may be 1986 (it is the same engine code as the original).

I don't want to race spec it but it would be nice to compete in it for something.

Speak to the Tour Britannia organising team! My guess is that it will be eligible.

There's also a Tour Ireland this year.

Tour Brit is run by a guy called Alec Poole. If you want me to put you in touch with him just drop me a PM.

As for your car's eligibility - yes you can use your car. TB cut off is Dec 31 1985. This is manufactured date, not registered date so run your VIN but all sounds fine to me. As for the other point - engine swaps - if the engine is precisely the same spec as the one you're replacing, it's fine. You couldn't go slinging in a 16V, 2.7 or 3.0 block though, it has to be as originally fitted.

However, unless you have some experience of this kind of rallying I wouldn't go straight for TB. A better option would be one of the many 1 day clubman rallies, HERO's Throckmorton Challenge is amongst the best (if you like doing massive skids!). They're generally only a few hundred quid all in, some of them are as little as £100 for driver + nav inc lunch.

TB is a great event, no mistake, but it's very expensive for a first try.

Do you know of any smaller events in the herts/cambs/beds area.

Your local car club will organise '12 Car Rallies' which will be right up your street to start.I'll get a list of your local ones on Monday.
