I bought a nice new OPC sunroof seal - the outer one that attaches to the sunroof panel. Now the arms for the sunroof will not extend fully into the slots, which means I can't raise or lower the sunroof. It appears that my sunroof sticks up higher in the middle:

Has it bent over time from the arms pulling it down?
How do I solve this? Will the seal compress eventually?

I had the same problem Alex.

Don't think its the sunroof more the seal itself. It does appear to be an inch or so too long and needs to be squashed up to get it on - but on advice on the forum it should NOT be cut down as it shrinks over time... this shrinkage may help it fit better... waiting for mine to shrink as I type :)

How long have you been waiting for yours to shrink? Does it close fully?

I had to cut mine shorter, but only by about 1cm, otherwise I couldn't get it to fit at all.

Still waiting Al... fitted mine around Oct last year but there is no other way of making it fit.... it does close - just. Needs a helping hand on one corner to push it down.... seems these seals are just really poor design that is badly executed...

When the weather is dry enough, I'm going to take it off again and seal it with adhesive/sealant and a very heavy board and weight on top o squash it down as it still leaks at the minute.... fortunately just on the passenger side so Sharon has to keep her coat on when we're out!!

The inner seal Chris fit it with some clear silicone in the groove, a new one is only £12

Solved!

1) I sprayed some grease on the slots and the arms.

2) By design it seems that the arms do not extend to the top of the slots with the key in the accessory position. With the key on the normal position, the arms extend far enough to pull the sunroof down fully. I had never noticed this.

Had to cut mine. Despite two car batteries on the roof for a week, the roof still sits too proud.

Your seal is OK then Al? Good result :)

Cheers Steve.... think I may need to consider taking a knife to it and gluing it - have 8 spare alloys to weigh it down with - think that could do it? :D

Well it hasn't actually rained since I fitted it! But it goes in, and up and down. That's the first stage!

Ultimately the new seals are too plump versus the originals and cause the roof to be too proud and tight. They ain't as good as the originals in my opinion and everyone who fits a new one complains about the fit. On a positive note, at least my interior is now leak free with new sunroof, hatch and rear qtr glass seals :D

Just a note on the outer sunroof seals, they are not watertight seals.
Many of us replace them because of leaks (me included) and it doesn't cure them because it wasn't the problem.
Blocked or cracked drain tubes, qtr glass seals and holes in battery tray are more likely

btw
my sunroof also sits slightly proud
