Dusting off the 924S again for the new season. Racing at Donington on Saturday 28 March in a 45 min 750 Roadsports race.

It's a full grid and the 3 classes are power to weight based so slightly different for me. Should be extremely busy.

What series? CSCC? I'll have a look to see when you're at cadwell

It's the 750 motor club. Their Roadsports series, so a 45 min race with a pit stop for 1 or 2 drivers. First time I have entered this series as i have been a CSCC guy for many years. Donington is on my door step so thought it would be rude not to.

This year I am not sticking to one club, I'm going to try to race 6-8 times but pick a variety of clubs so that I can race mostly at Donington and other local circuits to me. This will save me a fair bit of money on travelling and accom expenses. I may do one "away" event at Snetterton - possibly a 6 hour race! but that's it. So, I'm going to try to race at Donington with 750, CSCC and the 360mrc, maybe Silverstone with cscc, and Mallory and Snett with 360.

I don't hint CSCC are doing Cadwell but I think 750 are, although I doubt I will do that race.

Ah good, donnington is just over an hour from me, I expect we'll be competing at the history on may day. Claire smith does a great job with the 750 motor club! By all accounts the snet 6 hours is a mega race for the enthusiast! Ill have a look when the 750 is on at cadwell. Its a great place. We do 3 or 4 bits there a year.

Claire runs the 360 MRC amd I don't think is involved in 750.

360 are planning the usual 6 hour race in July and 3-4 x 2 hour races as well at the clubman level. 360 are also the organising club for the more "professional" level Endurance Racing Series, set up by David Hornsey, which is a bit like Britcar

I had one of my most enjoyable races ever yesterday, although the day started badly having damaged the exhaust getting it off the trailer and weather conditions for practice that were amongst the worst I have ever been on track in.

Practice was just a case of survival but I thought I had driven pretty well really. I was therefore very surprised to be 34th on the grid out of 36! And 16th out of 17 in class. Must some good drivers with big balls in this series!

The race was dry thankfully but there was a bad accident at the first corner which saw 4 cars badly damaged, one of them a Boxster. Fortunately no injuries that I am aware of. Indeed, there were 3 safety car periods in total.

I had some Really great battles with numerous pesky MR2, MX5 and BMW Compacts throughout the race and ended up finishing 19th overall and 8th in class. Great fun and I was pretty pleased with that, considering where I started. Best time of 1 min 30.8 which is 1 sec slower than I managed in a CSCC race last year but most people seemed slightly slower than their times from last year. Maybe cold conditions and high winds didn't help.

Apart from the exhaust problem, which needed a very jury rigged repair, the 924S handled really well as usual and this power to weight class formula seems to suit it. It's competitive with the aforementioned MR2, MX5 and Compacts and In my battles I was often slower entering corners but quicker through them and on exist and I suspect the engine may be a bit more torquey than the 2 litre cars, giving me fairly decent corner exit and straight line speed compared to the others.

All in all good day and I think that the 924, 924S and 2.5 litre 944 are well suited to Class C of this power to weight series.
