the tail pipe on my backbox is looking a little flacid...in fact it's half snapped off and corroded and currently sitting at about -45 degrees. looking to replace it pretty soon with a stainless, before it snapped it looked like this:

It's not the tailpipe but the sound that matters. My Dansk sounds wild. Cars with more power pull over to let me past  (Full system from Bert gear very reasonable.)

I would try and take the chrome tailpipe off now before you lose it, They're about £35 each. Mine has just dropped off - the second one I've lost. I replaced the first one, because you can never find it once it drops off as you don't know where it dropped off. Recently the back box developed a rattle. This was where the 'added on' bit of exhaust had come adrift, but I didn't notice that it had also rotted through at the back end of the chrome bit. On Friday I did a 90 mile trip, the friend I visited said that it was rattling a lot, so I got out of the car to show him what it was - and there it was - gone!

The 'added on' bit - The exhaust tailpipe comes out of the back box (as if you didn't know) but then there is a piece welded over the pipe to to flare the end so that the chrome trim can be slipped over it. The only benefit of this is to make the exhaust look 'big'. My neighbour has a Boxter. I looked down the back of that massive centrally located chrome tailpipe - and saw two pipes that are not much bigger than any normal car's exhaust diameter.

Anyway, I have hacksawed the other bit off and now have just the actual exhaust pipe on show. It's the original exhaust, and like somebody recently mentioned with his car - mine's been on there 17 years and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it, so I'm not changing it just to have a nicer looking exhaust - especially as I can't see it from the driver's seat.

I drilled mine from underneath & fitted a single stainless allen headed bolt (M6) through from the inside. You can't see it as it's 2 to 3 inches back & underneath. The bolt head soon blacks up. Not given any problems in 12K miles. :) (The Dansk is worth 5 Hp At the wheels on my Lux. Should be 7+ on an S2)

Mines is a Powerflow stainless... It was made by Callaghans who copied the original system. I had to get it made as a UK turbo exhaust wouldnt clear the US bumper
