Hi All,

Has anyone here given seat repairs a go? Mines got tan vinyl side panels and cream "suede" type center panels (pinstripe, so assume they're just very worn standard fabric!) - They have split where the fabric meets the bolster on the base on the door side of both the driver and passenger seat.

I remember seeing somthing on another forum http://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-944- ... oject.html (sorry if I'm not allowed to post that!) where the guy overlay his vinyl with new patches. It seems to look OK, but he had the benefit of a solid base.

Not really sure what the questions is here... I suppose, short of replacing the seats with used items that will probably split again, or have them retrimmed at £1k+, is this an option? Up for learning some new skills!

Will

Thought I'd follow this up, it seems there are quite a few suppliers of Porsche vinyl and cloth in the US but I am yet to find one over here...

Can anyone help with some inside knowledges?

Is it fabric to fabric? Not quite clear , I have succesfully stitched Heavy duty nylon in a tear in my seats(fabric), I also have a small repair with fishing line!! A darning needle and some patience is your man.. If its a seam and trying to join 2 pieces you might have a chance.
Vinyl/leatherette needs patching,im considering taking out my seats and having a look under them or under the cushion pad, there is normally excess fabric , unless they are trimmed to the mm.
I have also done the edge of the bolster but it is fraid and it has come apart, will need patching.
Paying a 1k for seats recovered?? No way spend it on servicing etc and stick some seat covers on top.

Had the same problem with my 924 Martini driver seat, my local trimmer replaced the side vinyl panel with one fractionally wider and restitched the whole thing, really difficult to see the difference. Excellent job for about £70, especially as the original Martini red cloth is very expensive and usually unobtainable.

I had the vinyl split from the cloth in my 924 (not techincal split but the vinyl ripped along the stitching) so I removed the seat, pulled the cover off the seat base and using some denim and fusible webbing repaired it from underneath. By getting the tear slightly over lapping and the denim pushed tighly into the tear the repair looks fine and adds some strength. I do have a temptation to try a proper repair as per the rennlist thread but not quite brave enough yet!

Hi Russmw,

Sounds very much like mine. The stitching has gone - I'm not miles from you, so would you mind telling me where you got it done?
