Finally have them fitted. The oval shaped plastic ring around the speaker just pulls off as it's only glued on. Then undo the four screws and separate the speaker from the mounting surround. Next saw off the 'ears' from the four corners and smooth the plastic down.

What is left is an oval shaped speaker that sits perfectly within the original Porsche plastic backing plate - a dab of superglue just to be sure.

Fit this in the car and the original cover actually clips back onto the original backing - without the need for glue.

Result :D

Has anyone got these Alpine speakers fitted ?
How are the speakers performing ? (would you recommend them?)
I seriously need to change mine (about two thirds of the rubber is missing - still work though !) - (buzz like hell though when turned up)

Are the rear quarter panel ones the same 4 x 6' size ?
Thanks Paul

A small word of caution here..I too had a set of speakers that were constructed like this with a plastic ring all the way around the cone. I too took it off as it got in the way. Then, after a little time in service I realised that the speaker cone was coming away from the speaker chassis as the 'ring' was in there to help hold the cone in place. In the end I had to stick the ring back and do something else at the fronts.

Yours may be a different construction - but I would have a good look at how well the cone is attached to the chassis...

The ones I bought fitted perfectly in the end - with a bit of easy alterations!
