Yes the D90's really suite the 924, they are from a 964.

It drives really nicely with no quirks you sometimes get with modded cars, I used it for 6 months did about 4000 miles and didn't have to show it a spanner, didn't use oil or leak etc (I know i'm going on and on) no odd noises, a nice light clutch, the 944 brakes are surprisingly good once fully rebuilt, the only issues were tweeking the map as I knew I was going to upgrade etc so didn't get it mapped properly fuel wise if enjoyed (booted) it would manage 30+ mpg, never found out how it would do on an eco drive

Once this is looking pretty I've got to do a body resto on my 924 na, new rear wing etc then it will be diesel time (next year), been looking at a friends 2.0 golf diesel mk7 and think it will work, it will need a diesel gearbox thinking Passat?

Hi there. I hope this is not a dead topic. I have done exactly the same as you with the same AEB engine. Wish I'd seen this thread first though! I was wondering. How did you get the tach counter working?

Still very much alive just new swimbo taking up my time at the mo

car is running aeb with late tt turbo on tubular exhaust manifold just need new injectors so running lowish boost at mo

Tach is run from tacho driver from available from emerald was £35. think others are available

is yours up and running? , just mot'd mine again had a year of 1.8t fun, these engines are real beasts with a little work but still amazes me how de-tuned they are in stock form

Thanks for the reply! Yes mine is almost up and running. I'll post some pictures soon. It doesn't sit quite as straight as yours as I managed to use the original bell housing with an adapter plate. So i've had to relocate the turbo. Unfortunately my fabrication skills aren't that great. The sump leaks like a sieve at the moment. So I'm having one professionally made. I can't wait to drive it.

Will the emerald tacho driver work with the OEM ECU? My other question is.. How did you get the temperature gauge to work?

Dominic

Look forward to seeing how you've done it.

I think it should work, the original tach needs 2 high energy pulses per revolution(i think), the original ecu provides 2 low voltage pulses (99% sure it does but do check) it should work.

I used the original temp sender by welding a nut that the sender screws into onto the steel pipe that exits the rear of the head.

The original oil sender fits in place of the standard aeb part

I did briefly run the engine on the standard ecu, they make really good torque with good mpg and so much smoother, but they can handle double the power on standard internals. the only issue with the standard turbo is it runs out of puff around 4500 or so just when the 20 valve bit starts to be of bennefit

Ah lovely. Thank you! I have made a build thread if you're interested. viewtopic.php?f=25&t=18164

Hi everybody, i hope this topic is still alive. I'm doing the same engine swap with my 924 and i have a few questions.
What oil sump did you use? Which engine?
What did u do to the engine mountings?

from the 2 or 3 cars i've seen threads on they seem to use custom engine mounts and custom sumps.

Put a thread up (if you have not already) and i'm sure people will help out when/if you get stuck

I read all the threads))in this thread mounts don't look so custom and mk1 golf have had 10 engines built on 3 or 4 different blocks)) just want to know which engine sump he used

The mounts have to be fabricated from scratch. The bellhousing has to be adapted using an adaptor plate (that's how I did it).

AEB is the best engine to use. Large port head and oil pump is at the flywheel end rather than the crank pulley.

The sump also has to be fabricated

Next is to make the sump and oil pump work, a mk1 golf steel sump was chopped up and welded, fitted with internal baffles

it needs a turbo oil return fitted, i also fitted a oil temp sensor, the engine is very tight to the front crossmember so the block had a lug cut off and a engine shock absorber was fitted between the cross member and block which also keeps the engine steady.

A slightly modified mk1 golf windage tray fitted and a modified oil pick up is required (from a 1.9tdi transporter i think :?: )
Oil capacity is about 4.5 litres after all the cutting and welding.

I wanted the engine to mount at the original 924 chassis locations so fabricated two mounts, its worth noting that to fit the hydraulic clutch the transmission tunnel need abit of gental  hammering

If this are custom mounts, i should pray him as god of customising)))

also worth noting as the old 2.0 na doesn't have power steering, so I converted a corsa c electric power steering column to fit the 924

Hi Steve, I think this is a fantastic build.

I'm really after an electric column too. If parts were supplied, would be interested in putting another together? For a few beer tokens, of course. :D

I'd be Ok installing this but don't think I have the skills to fab this up to work safely.

Good luck with the rest of the project.

Any chance you still have the wiring info for wiring in the stock ecu to the porsche loom?

How's the car going?
