Newish member to this forum and would like some advise from those who have done this before me. I bought the 944s2 knowing that it was burning oil and I fancied taking a porsche engine to pieces ( please don't ask why). Anyway took the head off, except for a couple of sheared rocker cover bolts it was fairly straight forward they are now removed. Head is now all cleaned up, valve wear within tolerances and faces reground so everything on the head ready to be assembled. But the wear on number 3 bore I don't think I can ignore, so the piston has to come out so I can check it further. So this is where I need the advice, am I right in thinking that because of the front suspension cross member there isn't enough clearance to just drop the sump to get to the big ends and that as the engine mounts are attached to this crossmember I have to support the engine to remove/drop the said member and if I have to go that way I might just aswell remove the engine completely. Now I have read the engine removal procedure from the clarke garage web site and I do have a 944s2 workshop cd manual so what problems will I face that they don't cover and are there any shortcuts or tips which those of you who have already done this discovered. Thanx, any help to make this easier would be greatly appreciated. Sorry its such a long post.
