Had the transmission oil changed at a porsche specialist last week and I'm sure the syncro into 2nd is as good now. Any suggestions?

Sorry don't understand this post, whats up with the syncro?

sorry, just read it back and correct, it doesn't make sense. basically can't change from 1st to 2nd quickly with out a crunch. I'm beating the syncro.

Sounds to me like the oil is now thicker than previously but i'm no expert only a user!

1or 2 suggestions :-
Find out what oil the specialists used and ask them why you now have a problem (assuming it didn't exist before the change)
Check the level ?
If you don't get a sensible response ring JM Garage 01202 488 800 or Bert Gear 10271 866 818 for free impartial advise (to Tipec Members).

As Clive suggested, find out what oil they used and pm oilman (user behind Opie Oils on here) to see if this would be recommended by him.

You could also check the level yourself. Undo the top (not the bottom!) fill plug which will give you access to the oil. It should be no more than 8mm below the top. Go to http://www.clarks-garage.com, click the link on the left hand side for "Garage shop manual" and scroll down to "Changing Manual Transmission Fluid" and the whole procedure is on there. You may even wish you'd done it yourself!

Im glad I didn't do it myself as the first job on the car. The mechanic had fun and games getting the seized drain and fill plugs out. I need to pop back to them when some parts come in, so I'll ask then. Insidently i also had the gear leaver and linkage replaced so the gear change is now more direct and quicker, so maybe the previous floppy gear lever was masking the problem as the gear change would have taken longer.

Spoke to the machanic today and he said he put Shell 75-90 in. If that means anything significant?

It does actually seem better when its warmed up a bit.

Being a novice here, but if you had the gear linkage changed at the same time, that's the most likely cause of the problem, which bit was changed the front or rear? OPC or aftermarket parts

When I did mine it took several goes at adjusting it, so the change was slick......

The front and rear linkage were replaced (opc). To be honest the gear change is now superb compared to before. But now I can change gear without hunting around the selector (flapping the gear lever about), the changes are quicker so now I am beating the syncromesh (but only from 1st to 2nd).
