Are you sure it's not the clips come off?, there are 3 in total if I remember correctly one is only visible with unit removed
I hoped it would be just that but no all clips are present and accounted for!

I bought a perfectly good, used heater flap motor (the lower one, nearest the front of the car) from Porscha-Recycled for less than £20 posted back in August. It wasn't listed on their eBay page but they had them in stock when I called.

Thanks, I will try and give them a call in the week.

Not wanting to thread hi-jack but I have only hot air in my cab just now. I replaced the broken clip but still the same. The rod with the replaced clip does not move when I turn the heat dial. I do seem to have movement when I move air direction sliders which seem to function fine. Any ideas?
O/P maybe my issue and your issue are somehow related?
Cheers

In a similar manner, I am getting No Heat. The heater control valve is open (i.e. letting hot water into the heater matrix). I disconnected the rods, and voila heat into the car. I.e. motor is stuck or not receiving correct signals.
On the system i have the control unit monitors the temperature of air outside the car (engine bay sensor), temperature in the car (via vent, tube and sensor behind the dash. According to the manual, as long as the temperature of air outside the car is less than the temp inside the car, the contol unit will adjust the flaps to keep temperature constant.
I figured that if i took off the motor and tested it with a 12v source i could rule that out. I couldn't get it to turn at all. I opened it up, it is all greased up, but no movement. So I figure its the actual electric motor bit..
All the direction motors work, but these are not under constant use. I figure as it's got a bashing over time the motor needs replacing. I will check my other 944 and see if its the same part. That will allow me to rule out or confirm its the motor, but still would leave me with the problem of a duff motor.
Stuart - Check your heater control valve in your engine bay is moving in and out when you turn your temperature dial all the way to hot or cold. If there is no movement, either valve is bust (fails open) or its not receiving vacuum to pull it closed.
