buffing advice please

Hi I have some buff marks on my 944 that have been caused by an over zealous polishing mop .Can anybody help on advice for removing/covering up the scuffs.I have clay polished,polished and waxed and this has improved it slightly over a period.I would try to avoid painting if there is a soloution.

It sounds like you are going to need to machine polish them out.

get some G3 paste and a buffer (propper buffer) and a water squirter (spray bottle) and use water on the area after the paste appears to have disappeared the water also cools the paint so it doesnt burn and also acts as a lubricant. have the spray on mist you dont need much.

G10 might be better for someone who hasn't had much practice and without a paint thickness gauge though I think?

G3 is the cutting paste it gets rid of the grit grime and surface scratches. the G10 is the finishing liquid
i get a pure mirror finish on dark colours. whites....well white is just white lol it reflects light when its clean

G3 will also get rid of paint.

In these cases it's better to work up the aggressive scale than down it.

I believe that max size is 0.5mb which is plenty big enough

if the forum gives you grief over sizing. simply edit the image in paint and resize 50% latitude and longitude and upload

shortcut in paint to resize is ctrl+w then just type in 50% in both top boxes and hit enter. then file/save as/file name

Only a machine will get rid of bad swirls and then you have to consider do you want to buy one or know someone with one..... you can get rid of a lot by hand it just takes time.

Sean is right - start on least abrasive and work up !

Id try somthing like g3 by hand if your a bit worried about burning through the paintwork.

Ive just spent most of yesterday on my 944 (at least 7 hours) and cut back and polished (g3 then megs cleaner wax) the roof ,doors and rear quarters and lower tailgate area.

I could'nt believe the difference its made to the paint, much stronger red than before and all the fading has gone.

I'll put a few pics up later if it stops raining

Hi Dave,

G3 is far to harsh for the removal of light swirls.

G3 is the cutting paste it gets rid of the grit grime

The grit and grime should have already been removed safely using a mild clay bar. If you are removing grit & grime with G3 you are causing swirls not removing them.
Also with G3 you are removing a thin layer of your paint with each pass of the rotary.

It's always best to start off with a light pad and the less abrasive liquid, them build up.

Also with the age of most 944's they will have seen a bit of paint, without taking a paint thickness reading, how do you know how far to go with the G3 when removing RDS (Random Deep Scratches)

never had a problem with G3 bud, if someone creates more swirls with it then they must be using it wrong? i use a small amount and mist with water when the first part is done. i have never been through paint with it either.... unless i'm so used to it i got it to a fine art?

never once found swirl marks after using G3 with a soft buffing head
