Here's a bit more info on this part. One end has a screwdriver on it. T'other has a knurled wheel which, upon being turned, drives either in or out the threaded end.

Not being funny, but it looks more like a tool than a part ... I used to use a 45 degree cranked screwdriver to balance the carbs on my old VF750 - could this be for something similar, 'cept not on a motorcycle or with carbs .,.??

I quite agree, it does look more like a tool, but what for ? I only have the word from the owner of a 964 Cab I bought some years ago that it is even a Porsche "bit", but, if it is, I imagine that it could be quite important.

I'll check it for any numbers etc inscribed upon it.

If your car is a cab, it is more likely that this is a tool for allowing you to manually move the hood in the event of a motor failure.

Nice one, amigo ! That's exactly what I thought all along. I vaguely remember the guy I bought the 964 Cab from long ago saying as much. I didn't keep that car long, replacing it with a 996.

I was hoping that I could get more specific details from here i.e what other 911 Cabs it might fit,
but your confirmation is helpful.

I'm pretty certain its the hand crank tool for manual operation of the sun roof on a Coupe in case of an electrical failure. I have one in the glove box of my 89 3.2 and how to use it is on page 44 of the drivers manual.

Yup it's the emergency crank for sunroof.

If motor fails, there is slot under gearbox/motor cover to accept blade end.

I'm only familiar with it from 928 world - it's included in all the toolkits.

I imagine that at some point in past 25 years it was just misplaced and ended up in the cab!

Also I made error in describing how it works - the screwdriver end is used to remove cover over sunroof gearbox mechanism. The prongs at the other end fit recesses in this mechanism, and the screw holds the prongs in position as you operate crank.
