Previous Owners

Hi...does anyone on here know how to trace previous owners for a car? I would like to contact any previous owners of one of my cars to try to build a better history

And help much appreciated

Hi, if you are the owner of the car in question you can get all the ownership history from the DVLA. Go to their website where you will find the application form and cost (£5)!

Thanks for that...I will take a look. I'm not expecting to get any details as I expect data protection will stand in my way - which is fair enough

Just did this for mine, DVLA provided full list of owners with copies of all registration documents including all number plate changes

I am part way through this process also, DVLA have now cashed the cheque some four weeks or so after posting - so hopefully I will have some info soon

Yes takes a while, got a letter to say request was being processed and the pack arrived about a week latter

Pretty easy really, I bought mine from the first owner! He had it September 1991 to November 2005, and I've had it ever since.

You can get a full MOT history from DVLA too which is useful as history lists mileage & any advisories etc...

& if you click on the "Check MOT Status of a Vehicle" from the above link you can see if your neighbours, family, arch enemies have taxed & MOTed their car

The MOT history check is very helpful Chris, but only goes back as far as 2005 when the system was databased.
