Well this afternoon i decided to clean the 44 and once done, proceeded to have a go at removing the sunroof.....
I looked everywhere and even tried what others had suggested on here, but the roof on mine still doesn't want to come out.
Up on looking on the motor and then arms on the roof, i think i may have twigged the problem, but i ain't 100% sure.

When the arms have brought the roof to its closed position it seems that it wants to go a little further but the motor has gone back as far as it will. The arms feel like they have a little play in them to go back say another 2mm, which i think may release them from the back of the sunroof.

One person even suggested pressing the button on the roof ( no button on mine  )
So for the time being i may have to leave this sunroof as it is. But if any one has any other ideas i will gladly try them out. I think i have tried almost everything to try and remove but it wont go, i even got my dad helping me out :?

If its any help, when you put the roof up it makes a grinding noise after its reached the highest point, when it is brought down it makes no noise what so ever.

Don't worry, there will be enough frustated mechanics at Gaydon to pull the whole car apart to fix it

But anyone who wishes to have a look at it at Gaydon is more than welcome to do so.

i'll be in the beer tent & around the trade stands, spending my five hundred quid

Don't worry it should have play in the arms when it's closed, otherwise the gears strip  & you learn lots of new words

It's a sequence detailed in the manual & once you're shown it's easy.

Mine doesn't come out as some twit removed the switch & front micro-switch & bodged replacing the gears. Whole thing needs stripping. So if your switch is missing on the roof itself (middle at the front.) It never will until you replace it. Hopeing I might find someone at Gaydon to supply the missing parts as I've drawn a blank so far. If it rattles when it gets fully open it needs adjusting. (Before it strips the gears.) Better not to use it for now! :)

there is no provision for a switch on the sunroof mate. there is a center steady with a factory screw cap and the two realease levers either side, definitely no electrical gubbins on the sunroof panel at all, just got saz to take some pics of it

The microswitches are OPC only according to Bert Gear. No idea how much. Clarks does a comprehensive break down of problems. New gears are fortunately cheap 2 or 3 stg per side apart from the chancer on ebay selling them for 12 from Germany!

mitsu said the microswitches in the rear spoiler of the gto's are mitsu only part....maplin sell a better switch which is identical except it has a roller instead of a hump. so i bet maplin will also supply a switch thats identical. i hear the switch's never fail anyway so i'm guessing its the gears?

Sorry if I'm being presumptuous and missing the agenda here but just to check.

You are putting the ignition into position 1 arnt you? (the very first click which gives power to the radio. No dash lights should be lit) Then pushing open on the roof switch?
