The transmission on my 944 seems jerky and clunky as though there is some play in it somewhere. On initial acceleration or when taking my foot of the throttle the car judders as though it is taking up slack somewhere and the transmission clunks as though there is something lose - any ideas what may be causing this and what the solution may be? Thanks.

Most likely the rubber centre of the clutch starting to break up, quite common. Do you know when it was last changed? It could of course be a number of other things but my first thought would be the clutch itself.

Thanks Stuart. The car has 132,000 miles on it and I suspect the clutch has never been changed. Any idea how much this would cost to fix - is it a clutch change - or just the rubber centre - I suspect it would make sense to change the clutch at the same time. Thanks Steve

If the clutch needs changing budget for around 1 grand, plate kit alone is £500

My S2 did that on acceleration and deceleration but drove ok otherwise.
My clutch centre had virtually no rubber left
Clutch will cost towards £1k fitted.
I did mine as part of the engine rebuild
As said,the clutch kit was around £500( i think S2 is a bit more)

I had similar symptoms when my clutch went. Read viewtopic.php?f=25&t=12732&start=30 for a full description. There's also some good advice on what to have done at the same time.
