RetroWarwick 10 August - Warwick, Warwickshire

Post by AlpineTurbo »

This is another show will shall be taking place in Warwick. It has been a growing event for the past couple of years with plenty on offer to show.

Last year a couple of Frontrunners came (mainly 924s) but it would good to see more Porsches there of all derivatives>

The rules are that it must be made before 1990, although 944s and 928s are exempt from this, seeing as they were initially made before the cut off day stipulated.

Please find a link of the event HERE

If you do decide to come along, please let me know and I shall keep an eye out for you chaps. Maybe we could see if we all could park up together etc.

It seems the Midlands has gone classic crazy :o

First Coventry and now Warwick with classic only shows..

Stratford had a nice display of all ages of cars and so will Prescott, so I know where I'll be going..

or maybe its the age group of the towns

The age cut off was Matt's idea IIRC. Whilst I do not agree entirely with it he has cited his reasons on some occasions (generally that the show is called RetroWarwick, in addition the owners of newer stuff causing issues). Looking at what happened at the last two Blue Liars Meets (which will unfortunately not take place again as a result) and possibly the Cosford meets he would seem to have evidence to support this. A Lotus Elise totalled two cars by showing off and a Clio ran into some people, both at the Blue Lias on two successive years. I guess this will always be a problem with locally placed public events mind you. I cannot say that I agree with tarring everyone with the same brush but so far it seems to have worked. It seems people cannot behave if you look at the Brands Hatch incident as well.

I have to admit that Prescott sounds good. I may well take a look into it :).

Fair comment, it's their necks on the block I guess... :(
I do enjoy looking at the classic motors and do attend various show, however I'm not really prepared to park in the public carpark myself- probably for the reasons they don't want the said people attending the shows.
It is a shame that its a blanket ban on 'modern' owners rather than idiot chavs :blackeye:

I attended Stratford festival a couple of years ago and it was a lovely day with a great mixture of ages and cars... sadly I was quite shocked by the public in the town after some tried to enter the cars and the abuse because you own a nice motor- what the size of my knob had to do with that I have no idea :|
We had great parking right in front of the RSC and the town was packed!! luckily no hover-vans went past..

As said Prescott seems to want a wider selection and I think it's where I'll be heading...

It will be great to meet up with another local chap with a frontrunner. With any luck I shall be there in either a white Stag or the 951 :).

The 1990 cut-off is basically to prioritise classic cars....its overwhelmingly an "old car" show (with a few exceptions).

I like all cars but we only have space for approx 130 in the market place, and its quite easy for half that space to be full of regular motors i can see everyday in Tesco's carpark. Goodwood revival has a pre 66 cutoff, Atomic at Sywell has pre 63 cutoff, Harpenden classics on the common is pre 94 and the Retro Rides gathering is pre-1991, so its not unusual.

The location is in a town centre which on a normal day is full of modern cars, so the event is also designed to create sight you won't see normally.
Cheers
