how easy is it to get behind where the cigar lighter sits to see if its connected? how many hundreds of screws need to come out and how many knuckles lost?

Read this http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/body-08.htm (in a mirror, as it's for LHD!). Be careful with the plastic trim pieces - they will be brittle and break easily! (They can still be bought new from OPC, though)

Probably worth reading the rest of Clark's site too...
