Mechanicals sorted for another year + sills checked & Dynax-s50 treated during the annual pilgrimage to JMG for the Turbos Service/MOT & TLC.

Next on the agenda is the bodywork, after 8 years of ownership a few bits need looking at ie front lower o/s wing & bottom of the doors so :-
Any suggestions for a good body shop greatly appreciated, preferably in Lincolnshire (so I can use my bus pass to get home  )
Clive

Had 1 suggestion from an earlier post in viewtopic.php?f=25&t=13151&start=1200#p126040
for the sills on his turbo (thanks Andy) done by TG Couzins in Stamford - it's Lincolnshire but right on the southern border so maybe too far away from you?

Any others would be greatly appreciated
Clive

Deja vu!

I started reading your post Clive thinking I'm sure I'd mentioned Couzins, then read on! lol

Let me check with a friend who lives in Lincoln, he's just having some bodywork done to his MK1 Golf, I'll see if he can recommend them. I know he also knows someone not to go to after a previously poor experience so I'll get that name too for reference!

Hi again. I've spoken to my friend and he said; (As cribbed from a text message)

Kent Bodyworks is one I'd steer clear, however Rust to Riches in Hemswell are good. 01427 667596. Heard of good reports at Paint Perfect also. 01522 568247

I hope that helps Clive

Thanks for the responses.
Am certainly interested in finding out so I can have a drive over to a few places for a recce and view their work before leaving the beloved Turbo.
Have seen one or 2 Tipec cars ruined by "body shocks" so am vary wary!
Thanks again personal recommendations are much preferred to sales blurb!.
Clive

Are they ones your or a friend would recommend? if so I am making a list and would appreciate details of them so I have a choice of "good ones!"
I have take the Turbo to Christchurch for servicing for the last 8 years & thats a 450 miles round trip so Lincoln to Grimsby is ok :) + I can use my bus pass to get home
Thanks in anticipation
Clive

ps Andy :- Paint Perfect is just 1.8 Miles away so will call in & check them out.

I use a guy who works at the Hartwell body-shop (it's not as bad as it sounds, I promise) who would do it at the weekends, so it wouldn't be a fast turnaround, but he is good. He drives a 911 himself and does all my cars (when I need him!). I can give you his number if you would like. His name is Mark Schubert

My 968 is being done by a guy I would NEVER recommend though. Twice it's come back with the wrong colour on it! Shocking. The trouble is, he's been contracted to do it by the previous owner... so there's nothing I can do. I think I'll just not take it back to him and get my man to do it instead!

My friend has just had his Mk2 Golf painted and it's a FABULOUS job (though it took a while to get it done). He's had two other "show" cars painted there and they've all been very good. They aren't cheap though. The company is called SprayMasters - the guy, Geoff is old school. Excellent work. 01472 358072

...and that's just the engine bay!

Hope this helps.

Update :-
1st outing Fri 18 July
Lovely 108 mile drive in the heat (after an unwanted cloudburst early on). Ran superb as to be expected after the most recent (8th) JMG TLC service & MOT.

1st) Grantham Marshalls Volvo to see what deals on offer for the outgoing XC90's (7 seats for Grand kids would be handy) tempted but probably too costly.
2nd) T Couzins Stamford (thanks Andy) to get a quote for some bodywork bottom rear of o/s wing + other bits.
3rd) Mark at Autofix 2000 in Bourne to get an alternative quote for same.
4th) Called in at Elliot's Porka Parts & purchased a rear hatch opening switch (current one is a bit dodgy!) + a quote on bodywork
Then back to Lincoln via Sleaford all on 1 banana & a small carton of apple juice + a few litres of V Power Nitro of course.

Next weeks action to get 2 more quotes from local firms then get the job organised.

2nd outing Fri 25th July
98 Miles round trip (missing out local Paint Perfect due to big traffic holdup). Visited Rust to Riches at Hemswell, well impressed (with Andy and the work going on :) ) so will be taking it there in a week or so.
(Also Visited our Caravan in storage to get some bits back home, good excuse for a great drive round the back roads from Bottesford to Lincoln, Shit! road closed & got diverted to a really crap road Welbourne Low Fields between Brant Broughton & Welbourne -> avoid it <- and all on an Apple & a small carton of Apple Juice  )
Anyway Photos will be taken of what needs doing after 8 years of ownership with no body work done in that time - will post the before & after when its sorted.
Thanks for all the contributions guys it really has been a big help.
Clive
