OPC service and renew warranty or Independent service

Hi, I met somebody this weekend with a Boxster Spider who advised me to join TIPEC so I will do so. However, my dilemma is this. I bought a Gen 1 2009 Cayman 2.7 from Porsche Chester (although I live in Gloucestershire) just under 2 years ago. The previous owner took it in a little late for its first service, under mileage but a few months late. Due to this, Porsche Chester went right through it replacing the Rear Main Seal and clutch while the gearbox was out and many other items to the tune of £4500 which came off the previous owners part-ex price. I am the benefactor of this maintenance of course. The car now needs a service and I gave been offered the chance to renew the warranty at a cost of around £1800 plus the inspection. Nothing has gone wrong in 2 years apart from a battery and I had to buy a Porsche battery to comply with the warranty. Th car has done 33k miles, is over 5 years old and I am tempted to go to an independent such as Cameron Sports Cars (local) for the service. I am therefore also inclined not to renew the Porsche warranty and to keep the equivalent amount of money safe in an account just in case. My main concern is not the warranty, it's the fact that it is like a pair of handcuffs such that if the car needs discs and pads, I would have to have official Porsche parts whereas the Independent can fit identical, non-Porsche boxed items for far less.

I have wondered about this question for a long time and would appreciate any advice. I think my car, being a later model has a stronger IMS bearing so hopefully that should not be an issue requiring a huge bill or warranty claim.

I think you've answered your own question. Sounds like you don't want to be tied to Porsche gb, you're prepared to hold a slush fund against major failure and feel happy to deal with what sounds like a local specialist. What could possibly go wrong?
