Classic Insurance for your 10+ year old Porsche

Post by village eejit »

There are now several companies that will insure certain cars which are only 10 years old as classic cars where they will mirror the NCB earned on the policy from your every day car on to a new policy for your weekend toy. This makes me very happy as it means I can insure my 1997 Boxster 2.5 for a very reasonable amount without having to earn more NCB from scratch.

These are the various companies/telephone numbers/quotes. Most of them will be limited mileage (in this case 5000) and some require you to be a member of a car club (tipec in my case). I specified that I must be covered for commuting to work as some presume you won't use your pride and joy for the boring stuff, but if you work stupid hours like me, there's chuff all on the roads, so why not!

Norton Heritage 0121 246 6060: £418

Adrian Flux 0800 083 88 33: £340

Lancaster 01480 484848: £470

Peter Best 01376 573033: £456

Classic Line 01455 639000: £396

Footman James 0845 458 6781: £900

Not surprisingly I went with Adrian Flux (not in a sexual way, you understand).

Hopefully this will give some good info for those who may be paying through the nose and not even realise that their newish 10 year old Porsche is eligible.

i've always been with lancaster for classic policies but i found someone to half their price..

the insurance factory http://www.insurancefactory.co.uk/ 0844 5376006

lancaster quoted me £532
insurance factory £250 fully comp with 0 NCB, no alarms/immobilizer on my extortionate m24 post code. :)

quotes based on a 1985 944 lux 2.5

my mitsu costs no less than £1300 a year to insure with a lowest quote, insurance factory £489.95 fully comp, no alarms/immobilizer

T.R. Youngs are brilliant as well, give them a try. My 944T insurance with them is only £322; which includes a second driver under 30, European driving, 6,000 mile allowance, excess as low as £100, £6,250 agreed value, and even fully comp cover on unlimited trackdays and in competition!

The surprise for me was Norwich Union

£327 for a 993 and 5000 miles per annum and insured value for lots of money (it's a very nice car: ask the Chairman) with the boss as a second driver as well as a city post code

This I did through my broker

The AA gave a similar figure

Even had a quote at £240 through a brokerage for Norwch Union using the link through TIPEC but couldn't bring myself to go there. I distrust very low prices.

So there's a surprise company to try, however my broker did say that they look favourably on the older, cherished cars
