Hi

Does anyone know of a source for the foam soundproofing sheets that have virtually disintergrated under the bonnet of our 944?

Not a clue apart from trying Porsche. I had an '86 LUX and mine had fallen apart as well. I took what was left off then just cleaned the underside of the bonnet removing all the sticky stuff. It didn't make a blind bit of difference to the noise level.

sometimes crop up on ebay, my 944S has no soundproofing, and looks like it never had any, with a tcut and polish looks good

I'd go for that too, remove it completely and clean the inside of the bonnet as you would the outside, it looks cleaner and tidier ;)

I don't know the exact year but at some point Porsche stopped fitting the under bonnet sound proofing. Neither of mine have ever had it and most later cars that I've seen don't have it either

I'd second that diver - mine is an '89 and there is no sign at all of any foam sound-proofing. And I like listening to the engine anyway 8)

Promax sell the soundproofing, I think. It's quite expensive though, they quoted me around £70 for a set if I recall correctly. Mind you, they were also honest enough to tell me that I didn’t need it because it was never standard on late-model Turbos and S2s anyway.

That's my weekend sorted. :)
Damn foam is coming off before it all falls off over the engine.

Hope it doesn't take too long though

There’s something special about sitting in traffic in the rain and watching it steam off the middle of the bonnet. That might only happen with the Turbo lumps though …

Porscheshop also sell them for about £75 a set, But far cheaper would be from Frost who sell sheets of it which can be cut to size for about £20.

Although, like everyone else, I just got rid of mine as I was fed up getting bits of it in my hair everytime I looked under the bonnet.

Mine doesn't have any but that maybe because it has a 924 bonnet! :?
TBH when you find out the cost & the pain of fitting it then you may decide not to.
