Hi Dave - Your work, as you have detailed here, is most commendable! I also have an S2, which over the few years which I've had it has done a 'catch-up' as regards servicing and foresight attention. I am not so sure about S2 rear spacers, mine when bought never had them, but I know earlier 944s did carry them. My tyres, as fitted are 225/50/16 fronts and 245/45/16 rears which was an option on the S2, so possibly no spacers from the factory necessary? A lengthening of the rear track (ie spacers) can also put additional strain on the driveshaft/wheel bearing? The rear 8" rear rim with the 245's fill out the back end quite fine and I wouldn't want to go beyond what Porsche recommend, as regards potential handling etc...

Got no pics of car on ground yet as still on ramp as am about to start the cambelt, waterpump, camchain replace etc etc

Some great work going on here. At least you should have a dependable 944!

One thing I shall say is to watch the thermostat. The pattern one I put into my S2 (a First Line item from GSF) would not keep a constant temperature. Initially I thought it may have been an airlock but the heaters were fine and the levels etc. were fine with me trying all sorts of ways to bleed the system (initially with gravity, and then pressure bleeding etc.). The temperature kept jumping from the low mark to midway instead of staying fairly constant.

Upon going to a BEHR branded item from Porsche this cured those issues. Upon looking elsewhere, BEHR branded stuff was not miles cheaper. It looked better built if I am honest, but then it should have done for double the price (the FL item was around £3 from memory).

I've had similar issues with pattern thermostats in other cars (in the Spitfire I sold it would not warm up even with our warm summer of last year and that was on an 'overheating' prone radiator design!).

I like the OPRV tool and the tensioner tool looks nice in the toolbox, but I set the balancer belt tension with feeler gauges.

Sadly the tension tool is not mine and was lent to me

How did you do your balance belt using feeler gauges ?

I agree the "clearance" from the guide roller is "gapped" but unsure how you managed to set the correct tension using feeler gauges.

A guy named Van has posted some vids on Youtube and I was guided by those. I didn't use a tool for the cam belt either preferring the waterpump twist method. When I rechecked the belts 1k later the balancer belt was still spot on and the cambelt only needed a slight tweak.
