Derrick. My temp gauge is totally different now ive had the head job done.I rang up to mention it and was told its down to the new thermostat and as long as the fan does come on theres nothing to worry about.Needle used to sit at ten o clock normally, higher in traffic, now its usually around twelve o clock and the fan still cuts in about one o clock as it did before. Regards John.

I'll bet 944bloke has an early dash. Their gauge moves across the top whereas oval dash move up the LH side:

Derrick

Are you going to Silverstone Classic next week?

I'm thinking of changing the head gasket on the turbo as preventative maintenance - got a few questions.

Got my '44T back on Friday after handing over a rather large cheque. The head gasket had a couple of cracks and the head needed skimming. I ended up also having to have the valve guides replaced and the valve seats re-cut. I also had an MOT & 12k service but haven't had much of a chance to drive it yet.

Jon also had it mopped and valeted. I thought they were playing a joke on me as it looked like someone else's car. It had suffered the Guard's Red oxidization problem and was more of a dusty pink but now it looks almost new. All I have to do now is re-bush the suspension and the car's back to its former glory but after this bill that's going to have to wait a while.

Well done Derrick for completing the job yourself, I wouldn't know where to start.

Well done you guys for getting it back together! Mine settled down after a couple of weeks & the coolant suddenly dropped by about a pint. Must have had a vapour lock. Took a long run before it sorted itself out. :)

i will be calling my supplier tomorrow about complete head sets so lets see if i can lower the price on these somewhat. i will also be enquiring into rings and bearings (big end and main also little ends) i will post the prices here to see if they are vastly cheaper than euro or anywhere els.

i'm sure i can get these for next to nothing, i got a complete set for my gto v6 twinturbo for £80 thats inc the two triple plate steel headgaskets, and cam cover gasket set. the next cheapest price is an outlet down south at £170 the set that doesn't include the cam cover gasket set. priced at £40 extra.

Either use Euro or better Berlyn or order from the US, Pelican & EBS have a good reputation for the more greasy bits.
Might be worth a ring to an OPC & seeing if they can do better on the 10% TiPEC discount

I'm afraid I won't be making it to Gaydon, my sister in law is booked in for a caesarian on the Monday after so I will have to be in London for the weekend. I haven't been to one of the National events yet as something always comes up and its closer to the South this time than ever!
