Ok, so this beauty has got to go because I need to raise funds for my next project ...

I've had it for almost a year now, having rescued it from a ten year incarceration in an old lady's garage.

The good:

Nice low mileage - 77 and a bit k with a really tight and sweet motor. 6 months tax and test remaining.

To get it running I gave it a complete service, with new injector seals, oil and filter, brake and coolant replaced, brake overhaul including a complete strip and rebuild of the rear drums, complete fuel system flush including draining the tank and scraping out ten years worth of gunk and sh1te, new distributor and leads with new plugs thrown in for good measure. There is a full Porsche main dealer (Heddel & Deeks / Chapelgate) history up to the time it went into the garage, then when it came out occasionally for an MOT and oil-change at the lady's local garage.

Image

The bodywork is in remarkable condition, with just a few tiny marks, no scratches gouges or dents, not a single external sign of rust anywhere, and a removable sunroof that doesn't leak. All four wheels were refurbished locally and are completely unmarked.

The interior is in as good nick as the the exterior, half leather seats without any visible damage or marks, even the original Blaupunkt push button radio-cassette is working well...

All the electrics work properly, lights and spots etc., as does the electric aerial and it had a new battery last year.

The bad...

it needs sun visor clips (on their way) and the middle box is blowing (new one in the garage waiting to be fitted...). The steering wheel leather needs re-stitching which I'll do myself sometime in the near future.. The sill paint has gone grey with age and could do with spritzing up a little which again I'll probably get done this week.

What I need is enough to get me a project 944 S2 cabrio or a 968 cabrio (and yes I know I wasn't quick enough for this weekend's steal of the month cos I'd have busted into the overdraft for that one...). I know what either is likely to cost me, so the 24 needs to make as big a contribution as possible. Is £2750 too much to ask?? If of course you've got a spare S2 or 68 project kicking around and are looking for a lovely 924 for your wife to drive we could always have a little chat ...

Waiting for the flames ... lol..

I think it's about time people started asking proper money for these cars, yes you can buy one less expensively but yours looks to be a peach. I suspect you've put it up at a price that gives yourself some wiggle room, and likely gave a lot less for it than you're asking but how many are out there in good genuine condition? Not so many...

Pictures of the battery tray area would be good, seem to be a bit of a grot trap and if yours is good then it's worth shouting about.

GLWS!

Hahaha ... I feel a Mike Brewer moment coming on ... Of course my asking price is greater than my purchase price but in my opinion it's a fair reflection of the value of the work I've put into the car to get it how it is now. Trust me I'm cheaper than a garage! To add even more value (lol), this weekend I'll give it a proper polish, not just a quick wipe over, and will give it a good scrub under the wheel arches to make it gleeeeeeeeam. Fortuitously I spent a few minutes cleaning the engine bay last weekend so yes, a pic of the battery tray will be possible and will be added to the original post.

I didn't think that the money was too far off the mark given that this one is as good as it is, and of course it has low low miles on it and has a full Porsche history, but of course this board is probably going to be the most critical of all (and I'm not being nasty saying that) simply because the knowledge base that exists here means that everyone's an expert looking for a bargain and will pick holes in most cars offered in the hope of getting a few quid knocked off. My asking price is driven not only by the fact that this is such a good car, but also that I need a certain amount of money for the next project car I have in mind, and quite typically one has just popped out from under the duvet. Yes of course, there always has to be a margin for negotiation in any deal - for example a guy from Cheshire expressed an interest but said he was too far away. If it was a deal maker I'd be happy to deliver it ... wriggle room see!

In all honesty I think this car is too good to sell to some Ebay oik (but then again we've all bought a car from Ebay at some time or other ... haven't we??) but at the end of the day I need to sell the car so whoever comes up with enough dosh will drive away with a very well presented and appreciating 924.

Muchos grassyarse to all...

Greg

Hi, That's a great looking car you've got there, can't be many about in that condition. I think the money you're asking seems fair. If you can it would probably be wise to hang on to it for a bit. Especially if the rolling tax exemption comes back, then it would instantly go up in value.

Shush, I'm hoping for a lottery or premium bond windfall... lovely looking '24.

Ok, so my little beauty went to her new home last night - I was really quite sad hence my over indulgence in the Pinot department ...

I have to say though that Gumtree paid dividends - no stupid listing fees or final selling value fees, just a constant (virtually) stream of emails asking if the car was still for sale. It sold to the first caller, I suspect that if I'd been firmer (or more greedy) I could have probably put another £500.00 onto my original asking price and bot pretty close, but as it stood the old girl did me proud.

Now I just need to fill the hole.

In the garage or the wine rack :)

Well done on the sale, what are you going to buy?

Lolz - the garage of course. I have regular deliveries from Giordano.

I have a couple of options, ultimately taking me towards an S2 Cab

1) Be a complete prick and buy a Corrado G60 that is languishing as a garden-slash-pond ornament on my parcels round. Restore the G60 - hopefully as well as the 924 - with a new interior and a re-spray or wrap and either keep it as my daily or resell it for my new project fund...

2) Just be a complete tw@t and throw caution and my overdraft to the wind and buy a very very nice one straight out ...

3) Be a prudent and conservative buyer and take a punt on a properly rusty project Cab and hope that my 924 profit with a small additional investment and a lot of mechanical input from me will be sufficient to create a decent motor.

4) Fall at the feet of a fellow forumite in the hope that an honest S2 might come my way ...

In any event I'm aiming to end up with a tidy S2 Cab to take me and the Mrs on our first child-free holiday in 20 years. The plan: a bimbling tour through Eastern France, down to Annecy and the Alps then through Southern Provence to the Gorge de Verdon and home via Clermont-Ferrand and a night in Gay Paree to finish ... 10 days with a good chance of at least one leg-over

I had many jolly trips over the Channel in my S2 Cab. :)

If your heart is saying S2 cab, just go for it.

Aye - the heart has already dictated what the outcome will be, I just need to work out how to get there in the most painless and joyful way.
