Was an electric or local hatch release fitted as standard on 1980 924 Turbos? Or do they only open from outside/the key?

My '87 944 had an electric boot release which was handy as it's a pain in the a**e so unlock it every time you need to open it (which is alot when you are working on the car and all your crap is stored in the back!!)

I'm just wondering if I can retrofit an electric boot release system from a later car or if there is a cabled version I could fit?

I could probably invent something but I'd rather just install something OEM...

Any advice appreciated!

All the 924 turbos I have owned had electric boot release. Check behind the carpet and see if you have the brackets welded to the back panel for the motor.. if you do, retrofitting it will be easy, if not, then you really need something to hold the motor, the rest could easily be installed

If the mountings have been removed then you could fit a Bowden cable. The parts are still available from Porsche as this was used on the 968CS. Mine was on the passengers side though, so you may opt to use a longer cable and re-route it for convenience.

Cheers guys.

I did think of using a bowden cable and like the idea of the 968CS solution - Where was it anchored to inside the cabin?

Also, was it routed under the car or down one side with the wiring?

I'm not too bothered about the weight of the motor etc but a mechanical solution would be purer (easier!) although I would like the most OEM finish I can get so I may recycle the now defunct bonnet release lever somehow :)

I don't think the mountings will have been removed, although I must admit have not looked yet.

If anyone would be kind enough to post some pictures showing where the motor is mounted etc I'd appreciate it!

For the manual pull option you can just get a remote pull assembly from somewhere like demon tweaks or somewhere else, whichwill include a knob, a cable, a mounting bracket, and some bits to attach the cable to the standard rods, lock cam or however you want to do it.. These kits are often used for manual remote pulls for ignition/battery Isolators or fire extinguishers..alternatively you could use a manual choke cable from somewhere, if they are still sold anywhere.

Thank you for the advice Jon, that's a very good idea :)

Electric pull seems like too much of a faff !

Routed along the nearside rear wing and behind the doorcard. Id adapt it to fit on the offside using a 12ft Bowden cable.
